Millfield High Flyers
Millfield pupils have performed exceptionally well once again in this year's A Level examinations:
• 98.24% pass rate
• 5.57% A* grades
• 26.83% A*A grades
• 53.81% A*B grades
• 27 pupils each achieved 3 or more A grades
Many congratulations to the following pupils:
Charles Cohen from St John in Jersey, who achieved an outstanding 4 A* grades in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. Charles is taking a gap year and will apply to read Medicine in 2011. Whilst at Millfield he was a member of the successful Tennis team which won the Youll Cup for Public School Tennis.
Hannah Molloy from Warwick, having already taken A level Mathematics in 2009, has achieved three A*s in History, Economics and French. She also obtained a D2 in Pre-U History. Hannah is now set to take up her place at Durham University in October to read History. Whilst at Millfield Hannah has been a key pupil in the newly created Triathlon team.
Frederick Ward of Langport, Somerset who, besides achieving an A* in Physics and an A grade in Mathematics, was awarded the top level D1 grade in Pre-U History. Frederick now takes up his place at Girton College, Cambridge to read History.
Denise Orenstein from Frankfurt, Germany achieved a remarkable result of an A* in German, A grades in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, Extended Project and 2 A/S levels. Denise takes up her place at Oxford to read Physiological Sciences.
Gregory Longden from Singapore who achieved 3 A* grades in Biology, Chemistry and Geography, takes up his place at Bath University to read Natural Sciences. A very talented athlete with potential to become International pentathlete.
Jian Qiao Wang, from Dalian City China, who is a highly talented musician, has achieved an A* in Mathematics and A grades in Further Mathematics and Physics.
Jack Carter from Camberley, Surrey achieved A* grades in History and Mathematics, and A grades in German and Physics. He will now read Law and German at Bristol University. Jack hopes to continue playing football; at Millfield he was part of the First XI who won the ISFA cup and got into the Semi finals of the ESFA cup.
Jiahua Zhou from Changchun City, China achieved A* grades in Mathematics and Further Mathematics and an A grade in Physics; he will go on to read Electronic Engineering at Imperial College, London.
Former Head Girl, Veronika Ostreyko from Ukraine, achieved A* grades in Mathematics and German, and A grades in Economics and Information & Communications Technology. Veronika will now read Economics at Bristol University.
James Disney-May from Farnham in Surrey, one of Millfield's leading swimmers, selected to represent Great Britain at the European Junior Championships this summer will take up his swimming scholarship at Auburn University, Alabama in the USA.
Millfield sends a disproportionate number of pupils to US universities. Local pupil, Christy Lambden's has commenced his Morehead-Cain Scholarship in North Carolina. This is a great achievement and over the last ten years Millfield pupils have been awarded the scholarship twice as many times than any other school.
Headmaster, Mr Craig Considine said:
"We are delighted that so many of our pupils have achieved success in their A Level examinations this year. The majority have realised their ambitions of moving on to their chosen courses at University and we wish them every success in their future studies and careers."
In other qualifications, the Btech PE group, all pupils who applied to university obtained their first choice.
