Guest speaker at Psychology dinner

The guest speaker at this year's Psychology dinner was Professor Stephanie Van Goozen who is renowned for her prize-winning research on the effects of sex changes on transsexuals' behaviour. She spoke to A level pupils about her current research which focuses on developmental psychopathology - studying the risk mechanisms underlying antisocial development from infancy onwards with the ultimate aim of developing more effective prevention and treatment programmes.

Her talk described recent results from her interdisciplinary research strategy that combines observational, cognitive-experimental, neuroendocrinological, psychophysiological, and fMRI/MRI methods.

Prof Van Goozen was invited to talk to Millfield pupils to give them better insight into current research in the Forensic Psychology topic they are studying in preparation for their A level. The pupils relished the opportunity to talk to Prof Van Goozen over dinner about her work and studying psychology at university, and she was kind enough to invite one or two to visit her laboratory at Cardiff University.
