Olympian Dinner Reaches New Heights

We are delighted that so many of you are coming along to the Millfield Olympian Dinner in London on 30 March 2012. We can confirm so far that OM Olympians Stephen Batchelor (Hockey), Mark Foster (Swimming), Paul Howe (Swimming), Pete Lerpiniere (Swimming), David Luckes (Hockey), Dominic Mahony (Modern Pentathlon), Sarah Winckless (Rowing) and John McFall (Para Olympic Sprint) will be joining our hosts Duncan Goodhew and Lord Coe for this fantastic evening. Book your tickets/table now by contacting Louise Lang +44 (0)1458 444517 or email louiselang@millfieldschool.com

We are very excited about, and deeply appreciative of polar adventurer and current parent Alan Chambers' donation of a unique prize which you can bid for now. All monies raised will go towards Millfield Foundation's scholarship fund.

Rather aptly, on 30 March, Alan will be leading an expedition to the North Pole, and is offering a person or company the chance to display their message or logo on a flag which he will take with him. This fantastic marketing opportunity is worth an incredible £20k, and includes Alan taking a high resolution shot of the flag at the Pole, and the chance to record the handover of the flag either before it goes or when it comes back.

To bid for this exciting prize, all you need to do is send an email, entitled NORTH POLE to louiselang@millfieldschool.com by Friday 24 February 2012, stating in pounds sterling how much you would like to bid. The highest bid received by 11.59 GMT on that date will win. The minimum bid (covering the cost to produce the flag) is £130.00.

Alan (www.alan-chambers.com) lead the first successful British unsupported expedition from Canada to the Geographic North Pole in 2000, walking 672 nautical miles in temperatures as low as -65°C dragging a sledge the weight of a baby elephant . Upon his return he was awarded an MBE by Her Majesty the Queen for Determined Leadership in Constant Adversity. He has since returned to the North Pole on numerous expeditions, helping men and women to realise their dreams, and has inspired thousands of business leaders with his expereinces. As a motivational speaker and consultant, he helped the 2003 England World Cup Rugby and the 2005 England Ashes Cricket teams to victory.

In 2009 Alan ventured to the North Pole with his 9 year old Son Oliver, who now attends Millfield Prep, and they became the youngest father and son team to stand at the top of the world.

His belief in inspiring others to achieve is the reason why he wants to help Millfield Foundation raise as much money as possible for scholarships, allowing talented youngsters - whatever their financial circumstances - to benefit from a Millfield education.

What you need to know before you bid:

  • The picture taken by Alan will be yours to reproduce as you wish for genuine publicity purposes. Alan has offered to do a handover of the flag either at the beginning or end of the journey - subject to establishing a mutually beneficial date and time - thus offering a further PR opportunity for the winner.
  • By emailing a bid, you are committing to buying the lot if your bid is the highest when the auction closes at 11.59 GMT on Friday 24 February 2012. Once you send an email bid, your bid cannot be retracted. If you are successful, you will be contacted as soon as possible after the close of the auction, and payment details will be taken from you. You may bid as many times as you wish, bids should be made in pounds sterling and in whole pounds only.
  • The size of flag will be 4ft x 8ft, and will be digitally printed.
  • Logo/artwork needs to be received by us no later than Thursday 1 March 2012, and will be subject to approval by the School.
  • It is recommended that you submit artwork which does not sit on a white background as it will not stand out well against snow and ice.
  • If in doubt, please email any questions to Louise Lang (louiselang@millfieldschool.com) before making a bid, as once you have bid, it is binding.

To book for the Olympian Dinner, or if you would like to offer your support in some way, please contact Louise Lang on +44 (0)1458 444517 or louiselang@millfieldschool.com - she would be delighted to hear from you!
