As well as being a Governor of Millfield (appointed in 2008), Tim is a Governor of two other independent schools. Amongst his other current roles, he is a Conservative District Councillor on the West Somerset Council and an Honorary Life Vice-President of the Achilles (Oxford and Cambridge Athletics) Club.

Tim attended Crewkerne Grammar School, from where in 1963 he won the England Schools’ title at 880 yards and represented the England Schools’. He spent 1963 – 1967 at St Peter’s College, Oxford, where he gained an MA in Biology, specialising in Genetics and a Diploma in Education. He won Blues for Athletics in each academic year and in 1966 – 1967 was President of the Oxford University Athletics Club. He was involved in Somerset Athletics from 1960 – 1986, first as a competitor, then as coach and official.

Tim has known Millfield, its staff and its pupils since the early 1960s. He was appointed by Jack ‘Boss’ Meyer in 1970 and served under Colin Atkinson in a number of roles, including Houseparent of Holmcroft (1973 – 1978) and a Senior Tutor (1972 – 1978) in the Directorate of Studies team led by Brian Gaskell. Between 1978 – 1986 he was Headmaster of Millfield Preparatory School (then Edgarley Hall), moving on to become Headmaster and Chief Executive of Bromsgrove School from 1986 – 2004. He has held various voluntary roles including governorships and non-executive directorships.
