Roger was a boarder at Forest School in London and in 1962 graduated from Hertford College, Oxford, with a degree in Modern History. He then taught English for three years in Boston, Massachusetts, before spending nine years at St Paul’s Prep School, London, where he was Head of English, a Housemaster and a games coach. In 1973, he was appointed Head of King’s College Prep School, Taunton. Nine years later he became the Head of Clifton College Prep School, Bristol. 1993 saw him relocate to Oxford as Head of the Dragon School.
Since his retirement in 2002, Roger has worked for the Asquith Court group of schools as an Educational Consultant and then for the Cognita Schools organisation. With Cognita, Roger is responsible for finding and training new Headteachers. He was also a trained Inspector and, as well as being a Millfield Governor (appointed in 2003), is a Governor of several other schools.
Roger is a former IAPS and ISIS Chairman and for four years he held the post of Deputy Chairman of the ISC (Independent Schools Council). Additionally, he has spoken at numerous conferences and meetings and for various publications on educational matters.
