Millfield pupils eagerly anticipated their A level results this year, keen to secure university and scholarship offers to study not only at UK universities but also international colleges in the US and Canada. This year’s cohort of 256 pupils took a range of 38 different subjects and achieved a 98% pass rate with 7% achieving A* grades. Subjects this year have included the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) and CISI (Securities and Investment course), courses which benefit pupils by adding further points to their UCAS total and also develop critical thinking and study skills. Millfield pupils have achieved outstanding results in both these courses this year.
Millfield is delighted that four pupils have successfully secured Oxbridge places to study Maths, Philosophy and Modern and Medieval Languages. Congratulations to Rhys Cummings and Xiofei Peng who will be taking up their places at Oxford and Max Baxter-Allen and Amy Clough who will take up places at Cambridge.
A record number of pupils have secured their first choice places to study at the prestigious Russell Group Universities. Pupils will study courses as diverse as Government and Politics at LSE, Aerospace Engineering at Queen Mary, University of London, Italian at Leeds, Biomedical Science at Imperial College London and Theatre and Performance at Leeds.
Millfield BTEC Art & Design pupils all gained direct entry into art courses at universities to further their studies. Charlotte Sutton achieved a triple D* and will be taking her place at University College Falmouth.
Craig Considine, Headmaster at Millfield, had high praise for this year’s Upper Sixth achievements. “The academic achievement of our pupils is enormously impressive given that Millfield is a non-selective school," he said. "Examination results are not only due to pupil’s hard work but also the remarkable imagination and drive of all staff here at the school."
"Gaining such impressive results in a diverse range of subjects is all the more outstanding when taking into account the contribution pupils also make to the school community as a year group; competing in their chosen sports, art, drama and charity work alongside their academic studies. We wish them all well for the future.”
