Academic studies at Millfield Computing & ICT

Courses

GCSE

Computing and ICT is a multi-faceted subject, therefore to cater for specific interests we offer three separate GCSE courses:

• ICT IGCSE
• Computing IGCSE
• ICT GCSE following the AQA syllabus

By following the ICT IGCSE and Computing GCSE, pupils can begin to develop programming as well as advanced database, spreadsheet, graphics, word processing and webpage design and presentation software skills.

A-Levels

Readily accepted and highly popular as a degree course ICT and Computing not only opens doors to universities but also successful and lucrative careers across all sectors.

At A-Level pupils may choose ICT or Computing. The former is for pupils who want to focus on how Information and Computer Technology is being applied in the real world. Computing throws the spotlight on how computers process data, programs are written and networks are used to transmit data.

AS & A2 ICT

Focussing and providing exposure to the practical applications of ICT pupils will investigate:

• Practical Problem Solving in the Digital World
• Living in the Digital World
• The Use of ICT in the Digital World
• Coursework: Practical Issues Involved in the Use of ICT in the Digital World

AS & A2-level Computing

By studying both courses, pupils cover four units, which includes an individual project. The syllabus covers:

• Problem Solving, Programming, Data Representation and Practical Exercise
• Computer Components, The Stored Program Concept and The Internet
• Problem Solving, Programming, Operating Systems, Databases and Networking
