Economics & Accounting

Over 120 Sixth Form students study Economics and/or Accounting to AS and A2 level every year, making it one of the largest Sixth Form Departments at Millfield. GCSE Economics is offered to the middle and top sets in the Lower School but the majority of students are new to the subject in the Sixth Form.

Both Economics and Accounting provide students with the opportunity to develop and improve the key skills that are essential for success in higher education or in future careers. Students achieve high examination grades relative to their academic ability, which enhances their opportunity to gain places at many of the best universities in the UK and abroad, and to secure very attractive job offers.

The department has six full time tutors, four of whom focus mainly on teaching Economics and two of whom specialise mostly in teaching Accounting. There is currently a very valuable range of age, background and experience within the department: three of the tutors each have more than ten years of experience of working within the corporate business environment.

The department is located in six classrooms next to a computer room with 14 computers all linked to the Internet. Each classroom is equipped with a computer and data projector that enables video clips and powerpoint presentations to be incorporated into lessons. Students have easy access to the most up-to-date textbooks and other printed learning material: digital textbooks for Economics are the latest addition to the department’s excellent range of resources.
