Geography

The Geography Department at Millfield has ten well-equipped specialist rooms, a resource centre, and an ICT and reference library, all with Internet links for staff and pupil use. It is a lively and friendly department of nine staff who are experienced in teaching a wide range of topics. Several of the Department are experienced examiners, and some have published both texts and articles in professional and//or Geographical journals.

All pupils through Key Stage 3 and nearly all through GCSE study Geography. Over 40 pupils opt to continue these studies through to A-level each year. The GCSE Syllabus was chosen because of its greater balance between physical and human Geography and the AS and A2 course due to its rigorous approach to transferable Geographical principles. The Department aims to develop the knowledge and understanding of place, people and interrelationships and of the causes and consequences of change. In addition to this the Department proposes to develop skills of analysis and presentation of data, observation, measurement, recording and evaluation. Both chosen to prepare pupils for the world of work, or for further study.
