Welcome to the Economics Department
Economics is the science of choice. Through the study of decision-making by consumers, businesses and governments, pupils gain a fantastic insight into the world around them. Economics is an internet-paced, dynamic subject; this has never been truer than over the past five years. The modern world has changed irrevocably during this time as a result of a credit crunch and global recession. The study of Economics can help us understand these changes as well as helping us understand what the future might look like.
The enthusiasm the department’s staff have for their subject is infectious and our facilities exceptional. With many tutors who have worked successfully in the world of commerce, economics at Millfield is both challenging and contemporary.
Facilities
We have six classrooms next to a fully equipped computer room that is internet enabled. Every classroom features a computer and data projector. These resources are combined with up-to-date textbooks and additional learning material such as digital textbooks.

The department offers a range of courses to pupils throughout the school from Year 10 to Upper Sixth.

With over 120 pupils at IGCSE level and 150 studying the A level course, Economics is a popular choice amongst Millfieldians.

For many pupils, studying Economics is the foundation for successful high profile careers in Politics, Finance and International Business. In recent times the department has a strong track record in supporting pupils in their applications to Economics-related courses at top UK and US universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
