Welcome to Leisure Studies
With the average person now spending more on leisure and recreation than they on food, career opportunities and degree courses within this sector have exploded in recent years.
At Millfield our Double A-Level in Leisure Studies provides the ideal route to careers and degrees related to the Leisure Industry. Predominantly coursework based, we offer our puplis the ideal blend of theory and actual ‘hands on’ experience.
Who is the course suited for?
An interest in leisure and recreation is essential. This can range from Arts to Sports.
Pupils will need a lively and enquiring mind as well as the ability to communicate well. Furthermore, as assessment is predominantly through coursework, anyone wishing to study this course must be highly motivated and capable of working independently as well as in a team.
This course provides a good background for pupils who are intent upon a career either in business or the leisure and recreation industry.
Double A-Level Leisure Studies course structure
Blending practical experience and theory, the course consists of six AS units studied in the Lower Sixth and six A2 units in the Upper Sixth. Successful pupils will then have two A-Levels and double UCAS points.
Two thirds of the course units are assessed through coursework and one third in timed examinations. Pupils will also operate in ‘real’ environments with five one-week periods of work experience.
From exploring the state of the nation’s health to marketing, business systems and the actual design and development of facilities, this course provides a comprehensive journey through the world of business and leisure.
