GCSE Physical Education
This is a popular and lively course. It enables pupils to experience and promote the value of exercise and healthy living. Furthermore, by planning and evaluating sports performance, pupils increase their knowledge of physical activity.
Course content
Physical Education GCSE combines both theoretical and practical elements. 60% of marks are allocated to performance in four different physical activities. The theoretical component covers topics including:
• Principles and methods of training.
• Diet and nutrition.
• Musculo-skeletal system.
• Cardiovascular system.
• Respiratory system.
• Performance enhancing drugs.
In additional to games sessions the P.E. course covers the following practical areas:
• Swimming and personal survival
• Basketball
• Athletics
• Tennis
• Rounders
• Orienteering
• Badminton
Pupils will be expected to show their knowledge and understanding of tactics and strategies in one sport through analysis and evaluation.
This course is an excellent foundation for pupils interested in studying the subjects at a higher level.
AS & A2-Level
An exciting and natural progression from GCSE. The syllabus, when combined with our teaching staff and facilities, captures the essence of sports science today. Pupils cover physiology, skill acquisition and contemporary sporting issues.
The AQA course specification will:
• Address current topics within sport science
• Provide the necessary skills and knowledge to enter higher education and work.
• Cover current developments in sport such as the impact of new technology, sport-specific rehabilitation and use of ergogenic aids
