Art GCSE

Art GCSE

There are two distinct Art GCSEs offered at Millfield. One is a specialist Drawing and Painting course in which the disciplines of drawing and painting are studied exclusively. The other course offers a greater breadth, incorporating drawing, printmaking and sculpture. Both courses are designed to be as exciting and rewarding for pupils as possible, with an extremely wide range of processes and techniques being employed. A typical year for a GCSE student may see them develop and execute a large scale plaster sculpture based on the work of Elizabeth Frink or Alberto Giacometti, and develop a series of photographic screen prints related to the work of Andy Warhol or a series of woodcuts related to the work of the German Expressionists. Alternatively painting might become the main focus for a student so the examination of processes and techniques is developed to a very high level, often culminating in large scale work on board or canvas. Whatever course a student chooses, it is certain that they will receive the broadest possible education in the disciplines of Fine Art and that they will be thoroughly stimulated and challenged.

The experience of making art is at the centre of all that is taught on the GCSE courses and that experience is sure to be exciting, dynamic and wholly rewarding. With an experience such as this, excellent results are sure to follow.
