Computing (AS/A2)

Computing is taught at AS and A2 Level for students who are interested in how computers process data, how programs are written and how networks are used to share data. The distinguishing feature of the course, compared with Information and Communication Technology (ICT), is the emphasis placed on programming solutions.

At Millfield, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is used by all pupils and has a place in all subjects. There are 32 machine rooms across the campus with Internet access so that no one is ever far from a machine when they need one. Every machine is connected to the academic network so a student can continue work in any room at any time. There are 52 machines in the library for use during private study time. These are multimedia machines with a full set of software and Internet access. Each teaching block has at least one machine room. The Computing Department has 8 machine rooms so that practical lessons can be carried out as required.
