New Holmcroft moved to Chindit Avenue in 2002 but was previously located in Somerton Road a few doors up from the Street Inn. Old Holmcroft was demolished a couple of years ago and a retirement home has been built on the site with a similar façade. Previous notable houseparents include John Davies, Chris Coates and Kevin Cheney.
Junior boys are accommodated in spacious two-man dorms, whilst most seniors have a single en suite study bedroom. Indoors there is a pool table, tennis, table football, sky TV, Xbox and, as with every house, there is range of daily newspapers and magazines.
Jonathan and Susanne Skinner have been houseparents for three years. They describe Holmcroft as a House with ‘loads of passion - friendly and welcoming with good mannered pupils.'
As well as looking after 60 boys, Jonathan teaches French and German, and is a rugby and football coach. Susanne teaches English and Media Studies. Prior to joining Millfield, Jonathan worked on a PhD in south of France and then taught in a prep school for four years. Susanne taught at East Bridgwater School and in Madrid. They have a daughter, Steffi-Jo, who is studying drama at the Space in Taunton.
Jonathan lists his hobbies as football, rugby, cycling, running learning Modern Greek and the bouzouki. Susanne enjoys reading, writing musicals and sun-bathing in Corfu.
