Acacia is one of the most established girls' boarding houses in Millfield. It has a superb location in the very heart of the school campus and yet it manages to retain a high degree of privacy. Because the layout of the house has evolved over a period of time Acacia has become a very social house with friendships across the year groups. The design of the common room, the secluded garden and the free flowing nature of the house allows the girls to mix comfortably. There is a sense of work and play within the house which makes it appealing to many of the girls.
Houseparents Lauren and Ben McEwen have been at Millfield since 2006 and have spent the last four years as assistant houseparents at Warner. During that time Ben has also worked as a non-residential assistant at one of the boys' houses. Lauren teaches biology and psychology and was, until moving to Acacia, responsible for the Senior School's PSHE programme. Ben is a business studies teacher and also runs the U16 boys hockey team. Out of term you will often see them driving around in their big red van, going off surfing or camping in all weathers. Lauren also loves riding and has her horse on loan to the School, while Ben enjoys an occasional round or two of golf up at Kingweston golf club. They come to Acacia with two old cats, Neo and Trinny and three Labradors, Charlie, Molly and Rueben who do not come into the boarding house but are always excited to have visitors and make new friends with animal lovers.
Lyndsay and Jamie have been assistant houseparents since September 2008 and they have a baby daughter Matilda who is a real hit within the house. Lyndsay is deputy head of the PE department and Jamie coaches tennis at the Prep School.
