The School Day

Millfield’s lesson structure

All pupils attend daily group tutor meetings from 8:45-8:55am. Lessons start at 9:00am and each lesson is 55 minutes long. There is a morning break of about 30 minutes after the first two lessons when many pupils catch up on their work, practise musical instruments or just socialise, then they go on to another lesson before they break for lunch. For afternoon school there are two more lessons and then pupilsare free to participate in a wide range of other activities. All pupils attend classes on Saturday mornings, as well as Monday - Friday.

Millfield’s Games and Activities Timetable

On Wednesdays and Saturdays pupils only have morning school, with games or other activities in the afternoon, so pupils are free to move on to their respective activities after lunch. All pupils, except for those in Year 11 and Upper Sixth, take part in the Millfield Activities Programme once a week after school, with majority of sessions being held on a Friday afternoon.

Meal Times and Free Time

Boarders in country houses catch their buses back at about 6pm, after they have had supper in the school dining room sometimes supper is back at the country houses. All pupils must be off campus by 6.45pm, although pupils are allowed back onto campus after prep (7pm to 9pm) to use sports and other facilities. Day pupils are totally involved in all school day activities. They are asked to register before school on a daily basis as determined by their day houseparents.
