Achievements
Millfield is by far the most successful school at the Achilles Relays, a very prestigious annual event. We regularly make the English schools cup final in both the girls and boys competitions; our girls win this national competition every other year on average. This year, our girls’ team were 2nd and our boys’ team was 5th.
Many of the athletes’ names below have finished the season with performances that rank them in the top 10 in the country for their events. Of particular note, are performances this season by James Lelliott; he is ranked number 1 in Great Britain for Long Jump at U17 level. He finished a disappointing second place at English Schools in July and was a very high 4th place in the World Cup for Schools in Estonia. Both James and Amelia Richards (Long Jump also) are representing England Schools in the summer against all the other home nations in Belfast.
Millfield has 3 athletes; Olly Biddulph, James Lelliott and Jessica Oliver that have qualified to compete in the English Schools Multi events championships; Olly and James in the Octathlon and Jessica in the Heptathlon.
This year our athletes won the English Schools' Athletic Association Track & Field Cup final for the second consecutive year. They had to go through county and regional rounds to secure their place in the final, scoring over 400 points in each round. Hundreds of schools from up and down the country entered the competition at various stages. It was the fifteenth time the school has won the event since they first entered in 1984.
