Who can take part?
Athletics at Millfield is open to all, regardless of a pupil’s age, ability or previous experience. Pupils can participate across a range of disciplines, enjoying dedicated coaching and tailored training to help each individual reach his or her potential.
In the summer, pupils of all abilities are offered the opportunity to compete in tournaments right up to national and international level, all under the guidance of Millfield’s expert coaches. Many represent the school in the Somerset Schools Championships, the South-West Schools Championships and the English Schools Championships.
Athletics is available to pupils on two levels; it can either be undertaken as a summer sport, or on a full time basis. Those who take it on throughout the year follow a training regime of track works, hills, speed play (fartlek), weights and circuits, as well as compete in indoor meetings in Birmingham leading to the national junior indoors AAAs Championships.
Millfield athletes are also given the opportunity to attend yearly national and warm weather training camps to further develop their strengths and specific interests, and help fulfil dreams and potential.
