Millfield Senior School for pupils aged 13-18

Millfield Sport
Cross Country

Who can take part?

Pupils of all ages and abilities can take part in Cross Country. The sport carries a low risk of injury, benefits aerobic fitness and is therefore equally useful to non runners as fitness support within their own sport. We are happy to vary our training to suit the individual, whether they are a top English Schools’ hopeful or a recreational athlete. We train three to four times a week and pupils may select to attend sessions as ‘drop ins’ if they choose other main games.

What's involved?

We regard Cross Country as a team sport with around 20 dedicated athletes attending each training session. We run regular hill sessions off campus, interval sessions throughout woodland, speed play, as well as steady long distance running. Our athletes can also choose to join core stability training sessions. From March we usually incorporate a weekly track session in preparation for the athletics season.

This year cross county hosted the Mendip Schools Area Championships and the Somerset Schools County Championships, Millfield pupils placed remarkably well; eight pupils qualified for the South West round and six pupils made it to National Schools Championships.
