Who can take part?
Dance is an extremely popular main games option, we offer 24 dance classes throughout the week. There are usually over 100 pupils who dance as part of their games or MAP (Millfield Activities Programme). Classes are available in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Street Dancing, Contemporary and Musical Theatre. Ballet classes are offered to all abilities from ‘Beginners Ballet’ to Grade 8 and vocational qualifications offered by the R.A.D. In other disciplines, lessons range from beginners to advance level. The wide choice of sessions ensures pupils of all standards are catered for.
What's involved?
Our six dance tutors offer a wide range of expertise and work to prepare pupils for exam work, taking junior and senior dance classes, and acting as choreographers for dance shows and school musicals.
At the start of the year auditions are held to form the School's senior and junior elite dance troupes: ‘Bazique’ and 'Lavolta'. Pupils selected for Bazique and Lavolta will dance full time. These groups enable our very best dancers to experience a wide range of dance styles and develop skills in a variety of disciplines. Dance provides opportunities for girls with leadership potential, Year 11's who are recognised with this skill are given the role as young leaders in Lavolta. Young leaders have the opportunity to work alongside dance tutors to help coach and choreograph dance classes.
