Achievements

The quality of hockey being played by both the Boys and Girls Hockey 1st XIs is of a high standard and has resulted in no less than nine players gaining international selection at some level this year. The Girls 1st XI remained unbeaten outside of tournament finals and only conceded one draw in the season, and that against Bath University (5-5). The Boys 1st XI suffered only one loss against school opposition outside of the National Cup competition and secured solid wins against our more distant opponents and both teams reached the finals of the National Competition.

The Girls 1st XI won the County title and progressed to the Divisional rounds where they proved too strong for the opposition, winning their eight games convincingly, scoring 20 goals without reply. Therefore it was with justified confidence that they entered the national round-robin of five schools. Unfortunately, hopes of recovering the national title were dashed for yet another year. The U16 and U14 XIs also won their County tournaments

The Boys 1st XI had a similar season, playing some impressive, high scoring hockey and dominating the school fixtures, save for the one match against a very strong side. In the national competition, the team progressed through to the national rounds, although they were forced to concede their West title in a hotly contested final. The U16XI suffered a similar result in the Divisional rounds, losing out in the semi-final on penalty strokes. The U14XI, however, proved more successful, winning both their county and divisional tournaments and eventually reaching the national final, having won both their quarter and semi final matches on penalty strokes. In the final, they took a 2-1 lead but were unable to retain this and eventually succumbed 3-5.

International representation has been gained by no less than nine players this year: Sarah Mansfield (England U21); George Farrant, Dominic Bowden, Chris Rea, Lottie Crampton-Smith (all England U18); Stef Williams (Wales U18); Jess Orrett (England U16); Dan Lewis-Williams and Paige Roberts (both Wales U16).
