Modern Pentathlon
Achievements
The Millfield Modern Pentathlon Club (MMPC) has continued to enjoy success. It has sustained the number of athletes training and competing in Modern pentathlon and associated sports. This year we have had a group of strong keen and well motivated pupils who bonded well and have been very supportive of each other. This positive atmosphere resulted in stronger performances than usual. Team or individual members have competed in biathle, biathlon, triathlon, tetrathlon and pentathlon at regional, national and international level.
In biathle Olivia Bryant qualified for the World Championships in Cape town and came 7th in her debut on the international scene.
In biathlon a number of pupils qualified for the National Championships in Macclesfield, all produced excellent performances in a high quality competition. The results in the various age groups were as follows: Sam Bedford 7th, David Shepperd 11th, Xavier Vrigneau 14th and Gabriella Read-Cayton 5th.
In the School’s Biathlon, which has become very popular with over 800 athletes competing at the qualifying event hosted by Millfield, with similar numbers the five other regions. The results in the academic year groupings were as follows:
3rd Year - Danielle Morgan 6th, Tabitha Krucko 16th Oriana Halford-Guerra 26th, Sophia Bhaumick 35th and Sam Bedford 2nd.
4th Year - Gabriella Read-Cayton 3rd, Jodie Bruce 12th, David Shepperd 4th, Xavier Vrigneau 8th, and Callum Batten 10th.
5th Year - Florence Bird 6th.
Sixth Form: Olivia Bryant 4th, Natalie Quinlan 20th, Georgia Stone 26th, Arthur Lanigan-O’Keeffe 5th and Gregory Longden 7th.
The MMPC also medalled in the team events.
In Triathlon a number of pupils qualified for the National championships with notable performances from Arthur Lanigan-O’Keeffe 5th, Jodie Bruce 4th, Gregory Longden 5th, Xavier Vrigneau 4th and David Shepperd 8th.
In Tetrathlon, it was fencing debut for our Year 11 pupils and with the introduction of the combined run/shoot at national level it was to prove an interesting championships for all our athletes. The event was held at Crystal Palace in London as a test event for the World Championships in August. The MMPC all gave sterling performances with Danielle Morgan placed 8th and Sophia Bhaumick 15th in Youth C. Jodie Bruce, crippled by shin splints fought on to finish in a very credible 10th , David Shepperd 2nd and Xavier Vrigneau 11th in Youth B. Florence Bird 11th, Dominique Symons 17th , Gregory Longden 4th and Arthur Lanigan-O’Keeffe 9th.
At World Class Performance level, Jodie Bruce Gregory Longden and Arthur Lanigan-O’Keeffe have been selected for National Programs and Arthur is now the Irish National Champion in his age group. On the International stage David Shepperd and Jodie produce have attended competitions in Berlin and the Czech Republic. David was selected to represent GB in Portugal at the European Youth B Championships. It is hoped that he will also be taken on to the GB World Class Talent Programme. Arthur will be representing Ireland at the Senior World Championships in Crystal Palace in August.
