Millfield 1st's v Brentwood (ISNC)
Won 37 - 36

We received a very warm welcome on our arrival at Brentwood School and the anticipation for the game was clearly evident. It did not disappoint as it was a very tense affair. Millfield had the better of the initial exchanges and had a two goal lead at the end of the first quarter. We added Duke to the attack for the second quarter and this clearly put Brentwood on the back foot despite their goal keeper not being too much shorter. We scored 10 goals to Brentwood's 6 and therefore a pleasing 6 goal advantage at half time. This was very quickly hauled back by our opposition as their goal shooter dominated with our defence struggling to combat her skill. We ourselves made careless errors in attack and although settled again towards the end of the quarter allowed Brentwood to gain the lead by 4 goals. The first 6 goals were shared in the last quarter each one on the opposing centre pass however it was us that consolidated first of our centre pass which gave us the momentum to score the next 4 goals to draw level. Brentwood scored the next two but the attitude of the Millfield girls was amazing and their determination and belief saw them retrieve this deficit and for Duke to score the winning goal under immense pressure with only seconds remaining. A superb display of netball both mentally and physically and I was very proud of the whole squad.

Monday 30th January

Millfield 1st's v Walton Blacks (League)
Won 64 - 30

Despite a tiring weekend of netball Millfield's first VII turned up for this evening match with attitudes to be commended. Told to play controlled, strong and fast paced netball this is exactly what they did! Kiki and Harriet both put in strong defensive performances and further cemented what is looking to be a fantastically effective partnership. The score at half time was 34-14 and following this promising start the girls kept it up. 6"4 Duke Heise at GS gave the Walton defence problems that they couldn't overcome. With Gabbi having perfected the high feed into Duke who's shooting accuracy was excellent, the tactic worked almost every time and Walton found no reply! The final score was 64-30 and we can't commend the girls enough for their attitude and performance. Well done!!!

Saturday 21st January

Millfield 1st VII v King's, Taunton
Won 23 - 7
The girls took a little while to find their form in the first match of this triangular fixture against King's, Taunton. The first half was fairly competitive, we led by 9 goals to 5 at the break but from then on we began to show are talent scoring 14 goals with only 2 in reply due to our strong defence of Kiki, Harriet and Sarah. Mattie recorded a 100% shooting statistic and was highly praised by me and her team mates especially as she scored 19 of the goals. A very pleasing performance to win 23 - 7.

Millfield 1st VII v West Buckland
Won 20 - 3
We began this second match against West Buckland where we left off despite losing the first centre and going 1 goal down we scored the next 12 goals without reply. All girls worked hard to turnover possession with great success. Our transition ball was excellent, fast and accurate with again Mattie at the end to finish with a goal and her 100% record lasted until her last shot of the game but she was nominated by all her team mates as a very deserved player of the day. Another great performance to win 20 - 3.

Millfield 2nds v King's, Taunton
Won 15 - 13
Millfield 2nds v West Buckland
Draw 19 - 19
Despite the adverse weather conditions this was a competitive triangular tournament. All matches were very close and there was little in it throughout. Millfield won 15-13 against King's Taunton, and drew 19 all against West Buckland. Special mention should be given to two of our year 11 pupils who played key roles; Rhiannon Perrin who played extremely well against a physical goal shooter, and Katie Savage who controlled the pace of the game at centre.

Millfield U15A v King's, Taunton
Won 18 - 11
This game began well with Millfield starting strongly in adverse weather conditions. The shooters struggled to combat some very strong winds but good movement around the circle allowed them to position themselves as well as possible to shoot. Centre court players worked well together, the ball travelled nicely down court and effectively into the circle; although at times Millfield found they were crowded in certain areas. Following work in recent training sessions when Millfield pressured the ball down court it was a successful tactic and Kings found it difficult to overcome, but the girls appreciated this was not used as much as it could have been. Despite this our defence were strong and Kings found it difficult to overcome, with Jane and Ali picking up interceptions in the centre third and Sadie slotting in well to the team at GD. Shooters Ellie, Olivia and India overcame the windy conditions and produced a good score of 18 goals to Kings' 11 as the game finished.

Millfield U15A v West Buckland
Lost 4 - 6
This was a low scoring game for both sides, with wind and cold making for unpleasant conditions. Attacking play was good in the centre court with Millfield cutting in front of their opposition and successfully getting ball-side to receive passes. However West Buckland had a strong defensive partnership in the circle which pressured our attack very well causing us to make mistakes. Despite this Abi and Ali worked committedly to intercept balls in our attacking third regaining possession and feeding the circle. Sadly Millfield finished 2nd against West Buckland with a score of 6-4 but this game left the feeling it could have been very different. Well done girls for such gutsy play and such little moaning about the weather!

Millfield U14A v King's Taunton
Won 18 - 4
Millfield U14A v West Buckland
Lost 5 - 9
The first match we started against Kings Taunton after they had played against West Buckland, so they already had a warm up. They were the weaker of the two teams, having already beaten them at the County rounds but nevertheless we set out to gain experience for the regionals. Without one of our players, Alice, who was doing XC in her County rounds and despite shooting against the wind, our two shooters managed to shoot against the odds. The centre court played strong, Emma CC and Charlotte East passing solid and Charlotte Edwards creating space in the attacking D. The game ended in a convincing 18-4 which meant we went into the next game on a high. The wind picked up carrying both teams possession off the court time and time again which meant short, quick passes were the key. The game ended after quite frantic play causing confusion in a narrow defeat 9-5 but we hope that will make us come back stronger and better if we come up against them in the future!

Tuesday 17th January

Millfield 1st v Barons (League)
Won 71 - 6
The first team travelled to the prep school to play league side Barons in this evening match. They started strongly with Katie McGinty taking many interceptions in the centre court and both Kiki and Harriet taking them at the defending end. Barons only scored two goals in the first quarter, a credit to both Kiki and Harriet's hard work in the circle. Our attacking players were running into each other's space at times in this first quarter but they realised this and improved as the match progressed. The second quarter saw a goal-less time for Barons with Kiki and Harriet keeping attempts on goal at bay! Yssy and Mattie worked nicely around the attacking circle in this quarter and between them scored 20 goals as a result. The score at half time was 35-2 a reflection of the strength shown by Millfield. The last two quarters were much of the same with Millfield keeping Barons' goal count as low as possible and extending our own lead substantially. The final score was 71-6 to Millfield.

Saturday 14th January

Millfield 1st v Wasps (League)
Won 57 - 14
Millfield started this match showing a very high standard of performance, with attack, centre court and defence all playing superbly. Meghan and Mattie worked strongly and effectively around the circle and both had excellent shooting accuracy. Kiki and Harriet turned over ball time after time and along with Sarah put immense pressure on the wasps attack. Both Katie and Dee linked defence to attack smoothly with great movement and little error. A really fantastic start with a first quarter score of 19-6 to Millfield.
In the second quarter Millfield's defence held strong allowing Wasps to score only 2 goals. In particular the zone tactic used at centre passes put noticeable pressure on Wasps and it took them time to overcome this. Harriet's unshakeable persistence also paid off unsettling the other team. Mattie maintained super shooting accuracy and Wasps' defence struggled to combat this. The score at half time was 31-8.
The third and fourth quarter saw some changes made and different combinations tested in preparation for the regional tournament. The outcome was greatly successful with Wasps scoring only one goal in the last quarter. This was a great match to watch with Millfield attaining one of their highest scores to date this season. Kiki astounded the other team with her ability to reach interceptions, Meghan Griffiths achieved 100% shooting accuracy and Mattie Williams who took 32 of the team's 57 shots still maintained an 85% shooting accuracy. Some outstanding performances from everyone girls well done! The final score was 57-14.

Wednesday 11th January

Millfield 1st v Millfield U16 & Maynards
V Millfield U16A Won 22 - 2
V Maynards U16A Won 9 - 4
This tournament style set of matches made for a very interesting evening. The Millfield 1st VII started by playing a Millfield U16 team and between the two it was a good show of the school's talent and promise in netball. The girls were slow to get going over the first 7 minutes with some weak passing, allowing the U16 defence to hold strong and turnover ball. Our defence did however match this strength with Harriet making noticeable interceptions and Kiki doing some great work in the circle. The score after the first 7 minutes was 4-1 and the U16's looked to be very much still in the game. During the second 7 minutes however the 1st team upped their game and started to pull together some very smooth and effective phases of netball. Dee Morgan played well at both WA and C and linked play between defence and attack nicely. By the end of the match despite the U16's making it largely competitive the firsts had showed their form and with both attack and defence playing very well extended the lead to 22-2.
After a 20 minute break the girls had to come on again and play Maynards U16's. A strong defence in Kiki and Harriet put two very accurate shooters under pressure and kept the goal count low. Meanwhile, Millfield's attack played well with movement around the circle improving nicely. The girls took a lead of 5-1 after the first 7 minutes and looked ahead to maintaining this by keeping concentration. The second 7 minutes were equally positive with huge commitment from our defence all over the court. Mattie Williams shot well and overcame an effective defence to extend the lead. Towards the end however the girls' concentration lapsed slightly and this allowed Maynards to score the last 3 goals. Due to slippery courts play was abandoned after this 7 minutes and the final score was 9-4 to Millfield. Well played girls in some useful preparation for regionals!

Millfield U16A v Millfield 1st & Maynards U16A
Lost 2 - 22
Lost 5 - 13
This match was largely designed to help all teams in preparation for regional tournaments happening in a couple of weeks. The girls played matches 7 minutes each way to align with timings of the tournaments and just 1 minute at half time. The U16s made a very positive start against the 1st VII; circle defenders Annie and Grace worked exceptionally well together with strong communication from Grace. Turnovers were common and well taken by the defence. There was also some good movement from the attack but at centre passes they struggled to overcome a zone defence implemented by the 1st VII. At the end of the first 7 minutes there were only 3 goals in it with the score at 4-1 to the 1st VII. After this however the 1st team did pick up their play and the U16s struggled to maintain such a close score. Despite this it was still a competitive match and the final score (22-2) did not reflect the play on court.
Following this match the girls played Maynards' U16 team for 3 lots of 7 minutes. Our defence worked well again however, accurate shooting from Maynards left them few options. There was some very good play from our shooters with Olivia Bellak and Ellie Pawsey showing great strength and attacking play. Movement of the ball down court was somewhat a weakness of ours and left areas for improvement including positioning down court, driving in front and strength of passes. Maynards picked up several interceptions largely due to these errors. The final score was 13-5 to Maynards. Well done girls for a very positive performance from Millfield U16 and a good start following the Christmas break!

Millfield U14A v Maynards U14A
Lost 16 - 22
On our first netball match of the term Maynard School from Exeter arrived half an hour late due to traffic so that put us on the back foot.
The first quarter started a bit sticky with our first centre pass getting intercepted but managed to score 4 goals finishing the quarter 4-7. Charlotte Edwards' movement was exceptional.
Despite new-comers to the team and swapped positions, Emma C-C playing well at centre court and Charlotte East trying her heart out.
The last quarter we got into the match winning it 6-3 which meant we narrowly lost the game 16-22 despite missing 3 of our players.

Saturday 3rd December

Millfield U15A v West Wales U14A
Won 41 - 21
It was a slow start for Millfield in the game against West Wales. Several mistakes allowed West Wales to score from two of Millfield's centres, and they finished the quarter 7-5. Jane Considine (who had taken the position of Goal Defence for one of the first games this year) was able to apply more pressure in the second quarter, and West Wales struggled to feed the Goal Attack. Combine this with better passing and timing, and Millfield substantially improved their game, winning the quarter very convincingly. By the end of the third quarter Millfield were continuing to go from strength to strength, and in particular Ellie Pawsey was playing very well in attack. The score at the end of the third quarter was 32 - 17 which allowed the possibility to try out some different combinations in attack and defence. The girls continued to play well in the last quarter and the game ended 41 - 21. One of the best aspects of Millfield's game was the success rate of the attacking centres which has previously been a problem, and the girls should be commended on this. Well done to Ali Hussey, who led the team to this brilliant win and she should know that her consistently high standards that she displays on court every week, do not go unnoticed!

Millfield U14A v West Wales U14B
Won 31 - 14
Millfield played a West Wales county side B team in a competitive and enjoyable match. It was an opportunity for players to play out of position and to experiment with different combinations. Rosa Clutterbuckdeserves a special mention for her effort levels throughout, showing fierce determination and Charlotte Edwards attacked very well throughout the game. The final score was 31-14 to Millfield.

Millfield 2nds/3rds v Cheltenham Ladies College U16A
Won 21 - 14
This game was played in short tournament style timings of 7 minute periods. This allowed many changes of combination and an opportunity for all players present from 2nd VII and 3rd VII to play. All girls performed well and despite not having practice together as a team quickly adapted to each other's style. It was a low key game that was enjoyed by all.

Wednesday 30th November

Millfield 1st v Mars (League)
Won 43 - 9
Millfield made a confident start to this evening league match. Zoning at the centre pass worked successfully and pressure on the passing down court forced Mars to make errors. The turnover rate was good but at times feeding in to the circle was a little ineffective and this meant the turnover was not always converted. Our circle defence worked superbly with KikiPearce pressuring opponent's shots successfully causing a lack of accuracy and then taking the rebounds that came because of this. The work rate on court of both Harriet and Kikiwas commendable with Mars scoring only 1 goal in the first quarter. The defence continued to work well and attacking play improved as the match went on. Feeding into the circle was increasingly successful towards the end of the match as players released the pass more quickly and bounce passes were used effectively. Mattie Williams also maintained great shooting accuracy throughout.

Saturday 26th November

Millfield 1st v Minstrels (League)
Won 36 - 24
Despite a fairly comfortable win it was not a great performance from the girls although the opposition was a tidy, experienced unit. We made many unforced errors because of bad decisions and poor passing. The girls did not adjust their tactics throughout the whole game so they continued to struggle to get the ball into the shooting circle which should never have happened against a short defence. We must learn that to go through the motions instead of thinking and adapting will sooner or later be our downfall.

Millfield 2nds v Cardiff U19A
Lost 17 - 27
It was always going to be tough for the 2nd team playing against a Welsh county side, particularly as this group of players has not played together much this term. Despite this all players worked tirelessly from start to finish and did their best against stronger opposition. At the end of the first quarter Cardiff only led by 2 goals and at one point in the 2nd quarter Millfield brought it back to within one goal. However, we were not able to maintain these effort levels and Cardiff began to increase their lead considerably.

Millfield U16A v Cardiff U16A
Lost 18 - 29
Millfield had a slow start to the game and in the first couple of minutes Cardiff had a 3 - 0 lead, caused by a number of unforced errors and inaccurate shooting. Eventually Millfield picked up their game and managed to finish the quarter losing by just one goal 6-5. However, in the second quarter Cardiff pulled away and Millfield struggled to feed the circle and in particular overcome the opposing GD who was zone marking at the top of the circle. The score at half time was 7 - 19 and Cardiff had built up a pretty convincing lead. The second half saw Millfield fight a little more and they actually won the last quarter by 7 goals to 4. The final score was 18 - 29 to Cardiff.

Millfield 3rd v Cardiff U16B
Lost 8 - 23
The beginning of this match was a bit of a "wake up" call, and we were slow off the mark. With a member of the team not appearing, we had a sudden unexpected substitute. However, she played very well! With some players out of position for half the match it proved difficult to start playing with rhythm and timing in attack when we had possession. In defence, players were a little mystified and lacked confidence with these new positions. However, it is all the more important for everyone to practise attacking and defending skills, which they do on a Tuesday! The key is then to have the belief that they can transfer these skills into match situations. At half time the score was 25 - 3. Happily the team did make progress, ably led by the captain Grace. They gradually slowed down the opposition scoring, and began to have the confidence to go for interceptions. This meant that we gained possession, and then managed to keep the ball with good passing down the court, into the shooting circle and successful attempts at goal. Centre passes are so important, and the attacks started to believe that they could receive the first ball, and then pass accurately to another Millfield player. The timing of our cuts for the ball improved, and there were signs of the movement patterns we had practiced the previous week. The final quarter was the most competitive, with the score 3 -3. Tribute should be given to the way the team came back, and showed that they can play confidently, only next time need consistency, and a commitment from all players.

Millfield U14A v Cardiff U14A
Won 24 - 18
We won 24- 18 in a very pleasing game where all the girls played, as I did not want to tire them for the hockey!!! Charlotte Edwards was the real play maker but some good triangles now happening.

Millfield U15B v Cardiff U14B
Lost 8 - 19
This was a fast paced match with super quick attackers and a relentless defence on the opposing team. It was clear that this was a county level team and that they had been specially selected from their area. The Millfield U15B's played with energy and confidence and showed excellent attitude to overcome all things which stood in their path. They were able to significantly limit the winning score through great defence and they remained committed to feeding the ball to our shooters at every possibility. Despite the result - a well-played game ladies.

Wednesday 23rd November

Millfield U16A v Haygrove U16A
Lost 26 - 31
On Wednesday 23rd November Millfield U16A team played Haygrove. The first quarter started badly with Millfield struggling to score from their centre passes. There were several mistakes made, usually immediately after Millfield had worked hard to intercept a ball. The score at half time was Haygrove 13 - Millfield 12, reflecting the fact that Millfield had tightened up their game and were starting to use strategies to overcome Haygrove, in particular the zoning they were using in Millfield's attacking third. There was still only one goal in the game after the third quarter, despite Katie Savage struggling to play and having to move positions to Wing Defence. Two changes to the team after this quarter proved too much and Haygrove were able to pull away finishing with a lead of 31 - 26. Players of the match had to be Ali Hussey for her excellent work rate throughout and India Maxey for her superb shooting and the ability to adapt to three different shooting partners.

Millfield U15A v Haygrove U15A
Lost 26 - 29
An amazingly closely contested match kept everyone on the edge of their seat as the scores levelled then inched ahead, goal by goal. Millfield found pace and space to their advantage feeding the ball effectively to the circle. Unfortunately we often got carried away in our defence and incurred penalties which offered the opposition possession many times to our detriment and allowed them to whisk the ball away to score. Overall an exciting and engaging match.

Wednesday 16th November

Millfield 1st v Emeralds (League)
Won 43 - 9

Another evening match played outside in wet conditions so it lacked quality netball. However, the team did a good job adapting to the very slippery court attacking ball side and keeping the passes short. We were strong in defence and intercepted passes regularly in all areas of the court. A solid, confident performance winning 43 - 9.

Tuesday 15th November

Millfield 1st v Knaves (League)
Won 42 - 27
This was a physical game of netball for the girls. They struggled in the first quarter to come to terms with this style of play and led by only one goal. As the game progressed our faster pace and superior agility around the court reduced the challenges by the opposition and we were able to take control leading by 10 goals at half time. The girls continued to work hard until the end to claim a well-deserved victory 42 - 17. I was delighted with the discipline from the team who concentrated on playing netball in difficult circumstances from both on and off the court as the opposition supporters comments were not in the spirit of the game.

Friday 11th November

Millfield U14A v Exeter Netball Club
Lost 16 - 19
The U14 girls played Exeter Netball Club in a series of 7 minute matches. The girls played really well and some great performances from Emily Rawlings, Harriet Jeanes and good centre court work from Holly Jackson. There was good defensive play from Bliss and Hettie. The girls tried their hardest to get their gameplay on after the second half and Hettie Hawler captained like a pro. The final score was 19-16 to Exeter but with Mrs Woods cheering from the sideline and great team spirit it made for a very enjoyable Friday night. Well done U14 girls and good luck for the future.

Millfield U14B v Exeter Netball Club
Won
The U14 B's also enjoyed several 7 minute matches against a variation of Exeter teams. To begin with they performed highly against a strong U13 side and won 9-3. Following this they played younger teams and ran away with a very strong lead - so strong in fact the final score was lost track of! There were some super performances from Poppy in the centre court and excellent shooting accuracy from Daisy. Charlotte East also played a quarter for the B team and shone outstandingly. Thank you Rosa who captained the side with great determination.

Thank you to all the girls who played for conducting yourselves in such a positive way - this match will have done a lot for the reputation of Millfield School!

Monday 7th November

Millfield U15A v Bristol Grammar School ISNC
Won 40 - 15
Millfield were drawn against Bristol Grammar School in the second round of the Independent Schools National Cup. The girls started the match strongly with excellent play in the attack and defence. Many interceptions were made although BGS's centre passes proved difficult to break down. The first quarter finished 12-3. The second quarter was more closely fought and Millfield struggled to find space in the attacking end resulting in the quarter finishing 21 - 8. There was several mistakes in the third quarter as Millfield rushed the ball down the court but the team listened to advice to slow their play down in the fourth quarter finishing strongly with a score of Millfield 40 - BGS 15. A special mention should go to Grace Bishop who made some excellent interceptions, India Maxey, who shot calmly and accurately, and Ali Hussey who captained the team in style by consistently pressuring the opposition. Well done girls - I look forward to the draw for the third round!

Saturday 5th November

Millfield 1st VII v Guilford High School
Won 25 - 23
This was a very competitive match with both sides unable to find their rhythm as a consequence. Millfield made many errors due to the pressure by the Guildford defence and struggled to convert their shooting opportunities. It was disappointing that Millfield did not learn from the mistakes and continued to play the same tactics throughout. There were never more than two goals separating the two teams throughout the whole match but mentally Millfield were strong and continued to battle to the end to grind out a victory to win 25 - 23 without playing their best netball!

Millfield U16 v Guildford High School
Lost 20 - 30
Millfield U16A did not start the match well allowing Guildford to build up a lead of 5-0 in the first five minutes. Once the Millfield team had settled into the game, the ball started to flow a little bit better and together with some successful turn-overs of the ball, the first half finished Guildford 8 - Millfield 7. Both teams fought hard in the second half and Millfield drew this quarter. In the third quarter Guildford were successful in defending Millfield's centre passes allowing them to lead at the end of this quarter 16 -20. Despite Millfield working extremely hard to intercept Guildford's passes, they often followed this with silly passes ‘giving the ball away' far too easily. A disappointing finish with Guilford winning the match 30 - 20. A special mention should go to Rhiannon Perrin who played her best netball so far and was nominated player of the match by the opposing team.

Millfield U15 v Guildford High School
Lost 10 - 26

Wednesday 12th October

Millfield 1st v Maynards U16A
Won 36 - 18
This was a stunning performance by the 1st VII, their best netball so far. The game started with a messy first quarter where tactically we played to Maynards strengths but likewise they also struggled resulting in a low score 3 - 2 to us. A tough talk at quarter time and some positional changes had the desired effect Meghan Griffiths executed her instruction to a tee and gave her opponent an England age group trialist the run around. We never looked back from here and increased the scoreline at a rapid rate. Our shooting percentages for the match were in the high eighties with Mattie Williams scoring the majority of the goals. Kiki Pearce had an excellent game in defence making many interceptions however the whole team performed well resulting in an excellent game of netball and the opposition coach was very impressed by the girls an ex England development player herself. Well done everybody.

Millfield 2nd v Maynards 1st
Won 27 - 12
This was the first opportunity that all the second team players had to play together. All players worked incredibly hard for the 27-12 victory. This was a great opportunity to develop the new shooting partnership and Tilly Hewlett worked tirelessly to maintain possession and create shooting opportunities. Katie Savage also played well in what was her debut for the second team as she has had U16 commitments for previous games.

Millfield 3rd v Maynards 2nd
Won 17 - 15

On Wednesday we travelled to Exeter to play against Maynards School. Notoriously Maynards are quite a strong team and their under 16's (some of whom had played just a few weeks before) had already beaten our under 16's so we were not really sure how the game would go.
The first half started steadily as the girls were finding their feet in some new and unfamiliar positions. As it is the start of the season we have not played much together but we are already gelling and getting some good pass combinations. There was also some good sportsmanship and teamwork going on: Amy valiantly lent her shorts to Emily to save her dignity and all girls were willing to fill any spare positions even if they were not their preferred ones.
By the second and third quarters we were in full swing there were some excellent interceptions and accurate passing around the circle. Rhiannon was particularly good at intercepting passes before they got into the circle and she was nominated player of the match by the opposition. The centre passes were all successful and we never once had one intercepted. Our targets for next game would be spacing and our driving forward for the ball. The team were led to victory by Grace Tomlinson and supported by Rhiannon who were excellent at organising and motivating the team.
Well done to everyone who played.

Saturday 15th October

Millfield 1st v King's Worcester 1st
Won 38 - 31

This was a very close exciting game of a very high standard. It was played at a very fast pace with pressure defence by both sides forcing many errors. We led at quarter time by two goals. The second quarter saw domination of the game swing 3 times as a run of 5 goals by us then 5 goals by them and then 5 goals by us meant we led 18 - 13 at half time. The game continued more or less goal for goal until King's produced a fight back mid-way through the last quarter to get to within 3 goals but Millfield remained calm and probably played their best netball of the match to win by 7 goals. The girls had to work hard for the win and remained mentally tough throughout, a job well done. Fantastic shooting by Mattie Williams who appears to have recorded 100% accuracy!

Millfield U16A v King's, Worcester U16A
Lost 28 - 38
The game against King's School, Worcester got off to a slow start and King's movement was by far sharper, faster and they appeared to ‘want the ball' much more than Millfield. Millfield started to get things together by the end of the first quarter losing it by own two goals (11-9). The second quarter was by far the best and the Millfield shooters (India Maxey and Ellie Pawsey) were successful in using ‘dummy's' to overcome the King's attempt to mark the shot by very quickly placing their hands over the ball or jumping on each shot. They should be commended for their team work and calm approach in those situations. The second quarter finished Millfield 17 - King's 14. With a few team changes King's strengthened their attack by using a tall Goal Shooter and both Millfield Goal Keepers in the second half of the game struggled to move around the shooter, who was very good at holding space. Millfield still led the game at the end of the third quarter by two goals. However, Millfield reverted to bad habits of throwing over balls in the last quarter of the game and together with using a combination that the girls hadn't previously practiced in competition, they really struggled. The final quarter does not represent how Millfield played the majority of the game and it finished King's 38 - Millfield 28.

Saturday 8th October

U16 County Tournament

The tournament was arranged as a round robin this year due to the small numbers entered but all of the five teams that Millfield played against were of a good standard. The first game was against Haygrove School and the team knew they had to play their best if they were going to win as Haygrove had convincingly beaten Millfield earlier in the week. Millfield did not disappoint and they played their best ever netball in the first half of the game. They turned over ball after ball, and were a different team to the one that played Haygrove on Wednesday. The second half saw Millfield relax a little, which led to a few mistakes but they managed to hold onto their lead.

In the second game the girls were a little slow to start with, but eventually built up pace and started to play ‘their' game as opposed to allowing Bruton to change the way they play. This resulted in a convincing win for Millfield.

The third game against Taunton School was very close at half time. However a few changes in the half time break made the difference and allowed Olivia Bellak to come alive and play her best netball - her movement was sharp and her shooting accurate. This game finished with a two goal lead.

Next was the Wells Cathedral team, who were by far our strongest opposition and outplayed Millfield. They made very few mistakes and broke down the Millfield attack time after time, particularly every time Millfield used ‘over' balls. There was a large goal difference by the end of this game.

Finally, Millfield played King's Taunton and they knew that if there was any chance of making it through to the Regional's, they had to win this game. The first half was goal for goal, until a few changes changed the dynamics of the team helping to get the ball into the circle. Although the shooting wasn't always accurate, they were lucky to have a few attempts and managed to pull away.

These are the final scores and resulted in Millfield coming Runner's Up at the County Tournament - more importantly this qualifies the girls for the Regional Tournament in January. I now need to ‘bottle' the same fight and attack that they applied in their first game against Haygrove and we could be in with a chance of winning the Regional's.

Millfield 10 Haygrove 8
Millfield 15 Bruton 2
Millfield 8 Taunton 6
Wells Cathedral 14 Millfield 5
Millfield 8 King's Taunton 5

Match Report: U14 Millfield v Truro (Away)

Won 22-17

It was a great way to start our first netball match of the season on a win. The match and game play itself was a really good starting block for our team with a couple of people playing in new positions (Charlotte East and Harriet Jeanes) all of us playing for Millfieldfor the first time and some not ever playing before on the same team as anyone else (Alice, Bliss and Charlotte Edwards).
The first quarter started it off a little out of time and unconnected and we forfeited from this going down 5-7. In the second quarter everyone began to get together more with a couple of players really coming out of their shell. A few minutes into the second quarter Holly rolled her ankle so we rearranged a little but even though we lost Holly for a while it was a good way for some people to play another position they're good at. By the end of the second quarter we were still 2 goals behind but had drawn the quarter.
Everyone knew after half time Truro would come back hard but all the girls came back harder and managed to bring the score level to 13 all.
Even though the match was our first friendly of the season both teams really wanted to have the first win and the pressure was actually quite high.

The last quarter made the game for us. Going down by 4 in the first 4 minutes losing 2 of our centre passes, to most people would seem like an ice breaker and game over but with true Millfield spirit everyone pulled together as one to not only level the score but beat them by 5 with the final score being 22-17.
Even though we won, we all learnt a lesson by the feelings we got from the Truro side, that you can't lose focus ever not even if you think you're winning by enough, nothing is certain.
Even though I mentioned people playing really well everyone on the court knew they had so much more to offer to the team but it was a brilliant starting block hopefully to a great year of netball.
Thank you Mrs Woods and Miss Jenkins for taking us to the match it was worth the journey!

Millfield U16A v Truro School U16A
Won 33 - 16

Millfield U16A's made a strong start to their game against Truro School. There were several moments of brilliance in the attacking end when the ball was passed perfectly into the circle and a goal scored. The pace slowed a little in the second quarter and this affected the timing of Millfield's centre court players in particular. At half time the score was 16-6 to Millfield. Some changes to the team for the third quarter team seemed to unsettle Millfield and Truro almost won this quarter on goals scored. A special mention should go to India Maxey on the awesome Penalty shot she scored at the end of the third quarter, after the whistle had been blown for time and from way out in the semi circle. Millfield found their rhythm again for the last quarter and finished the game with a convincing score of 33-16. As usual the girls could not be faulted for their work rate and determination on court. In particular Ellie Pawsey won the title of Player of the Match - her movement in and around the circle was excellent and her shooting stats were pretty good too (73% of attempted shots went in!).

Millfield 1st's v Robins (League)
Won 49 - 19

The team is beginning to work together as a unit and there were some slick passages of play with good commitment from all players. The centre passes worked well and the targets to convert to goal were easily met. It was a shame the girls lost concentration in the last quarter, wasting possession on numerous occasions. However on the whole it was a pleasing win for us.

Monday 19th September

Millfield U15A v Sherborne U15A
Won 39 - 15

On Monday 19th September the U15A team travelled to Sherborne to play the first game of the U15 Independent Schools' Netball Cup. The team were a little anxious due to two absent players from the team but the game started well with a turnover of Sherborne's first centre pass. If anything Millfield's fault was they were a little bit too keen and sometimes found it hard to clear out of space, instead driving too deep and minimising the space available. The score at quarter time was 11-6 to Millfield and for most of the second quarter the teams scored goal for goal. They were episodes of great play when the ball flowed freely down the court and Millfield scored with ease but there were also times when they made it hard work for themselves. It was in the second quarter that Millfield really pulled away with the score, partly due to Sherborne's inability to get the ball past Millfield's awesome defence. The score at the end of the third quarter was 27-12 to Millfield. The fourth quarter could be described as sloppy, and if it wasn't due to India Maxey's impressive shooting accuracy the score card would've been very different. I commend Grace Bishop for the way that she never gave up and made tip after tip. The final score was a pleasing 39 - 15 to Millfield. Well done Girls, looking forward to the next round 

Wednesday 14th September

Millfield 1st v Exeter College
Lost 25 - 27

The first game of the season was disappointing as the new team struggled to find any consistency. A lack of confidence saw many passing errors and at times poor concentration which allowed the opposition to take the advantage. After a particularly bad third quarter the team started to make a comeback in the last quarter but ran out of time to lose 25-27.

Millfield 2nd v Exeter College
Draw 14 - 14

The first game of the year against Exeter College's second team was a close match. Millfield second team played well in the first half and built up a lead of 4 goals. Exeter College dominated the second half, but Millfield hung on in there for a final result of 14 for each side. The game highlighted a lot of areas for development, but it was an encouraging start to the year.

Millfield U16A v Exeter College 2nds
Won 20 - 11

Millfield made a strong start to the game, finding some excellent space on the court and the ball made its way to the shooting third with ease. In the first half Olivia Bellak and Ellie Pawsey worked well together in the circle and were fed some excellent balls by Katie Savage and Hannah Buckland. At the other end of the court Erica Hughes and Annie McConnell effectively put the opposition under pressure, causing them to make several mistakes. The score at half time was Millfield 10 - Exeter 5. Grace Bishop took the court in the second half and her presence was definitely noticed in the way that she verbally and physically supported the other players. There were quite a few penalties against Millfield due to breaking the obstruction rule throughout the game and this will be something the girls will need to work on. Ali Hussey was named the player of the match due to the intensity in which she played and the fact that she hunted down every ball, successfully turning over several centre passes. All in all a great start to the season - Well done girls!

Saturday 17th September

Millfield 1st v Knaves (League)
Won 32 - 26

This was a tough game for Millfield against some experienced adult players. The team played a more controlled game than their first match and showed more determination to perform as individuals. It remained a close game throughout the match but Millfield showed the more skilful and dynamic netball to keep the lead and win 32-26.

Wednesday 4th May

Millfield 1st VII v Minstrels (League) - Won 54 - 13

Millfield 1st team played their last league match of the season against second in the table Minstrels on Wednesday evening. It was likely to be our most competitive match but it was clear during the first few minutes that we would dominate the game and win the division three title undefeated. We did not play at our best making many errors but we have not practiced due to the summer term games programme and therefore we were quite rusty. The final score was 54 - 13 a pleasing result in the circumstances. We are the only undefeated team in the whole league with the biggest goal difference and the greatest goals scored (990) a great achievement but as a new team into the league i think this proves we our destined for greater things. Thirty of our girls have had the opportunity to be part of this which has been a great experience for all.

Wednesday 30th March

Millfield 1st v Bradford Grammar (National U19 Independent Schools Cup Final) - Won 61 - 15

This was the last match of a long netball season for the first team but definitely the most important. The draw had been unkind and we had to make a long trip to Leeds but on arriving at the venue in plenty of time we focused on the task. An appearance of confidence during the warm up made a good impression although i know on the inside there were a few nerves. We started the match on fire and converted all possessions into goals with the opposition unable to reply, by quarter time with the score 13 - 2 to us, Bradford were struggling mentally. At relentless speed and control of the ball we continued to add to our total and increased our lead to 20 goals at half time. Bradford made a mini fight back at the start of the third quarter scoring the first 4 goals but it did not last for long as we then scored 14 and they managed only 2 more to make it 39 - 11. Our fitness levels shone through in the last quarter as Bradford became tired and frustrated; we powered on to score 22 goals to 4 and win the match 61 - 15. All ten members of the squad Mattie Williams, Millie Anderson, Abby Rimmer, Katie McGinty, Sarah Woods, Lora Maxwell, Laura Coates, Sarah Thomson, Bonnie Grant-Jones and Kiki Pearce were fantastic and played with patience, skill and control, a quality performance from quality players. Abby Rimmer our ‘captain fantastic' was player of the match for an awesome display of movement, timing, ball control and shooting. Thank you and well done girls, I am very proud and you are a credit to Millfield School.

Saturday 26th March

Millfield 1st v KES, Bath - Won 39 - 37

The girls were involved in the strongest and closely contested game of the season on Saturday. We knew it would be competitive as we had played them at the regional tournament in a short game and lost. The first quarter was played at pace with both teams trying to stamp their authority which proved difficult, Millfield just edging it 10 goals to 8. We worked hard through the next two quarters making interceptions at key moments to be ahead by 6 goals going into the last quarter. KES came out fighting in the last quarter and with a couple of turnovers were back in the game getting to within one goal but we were mentally tough and played our own game, with faultless shooting under a huge amount of pressure by Abby Rimmer we finished with a two goal advantage 39 - 37. It was a brilliant skilful game of Netball and credit to both teams for promoting the sport so well.

Millfield U16A/U16B v KES, Bath - Lost 25 - 33

On Saturday 26th March, King Edward School (KES) 2nd VII played a mixed U16 Millfield team. The first quarter did not go very well at all and the KES girls showed much more determination to win and hold onto possession of the ball. Millfield really struggled to feed the circle and were lucky to finish the quarter with KES only having an 11-1 lead. Several changes were made to the team - perhaps the most important was Shelby Baker going to the position of GA - this meant the teams were more evenly matched and Millfield managed to pull back several goals finishing the quarter 8 - 20. Millfield continued to go from strength to strength and scored more goals than KES in the third quarter despite Millfield having their centre broken twice through what might be described as unethical tactics by KES! Millfield went on to score 9 goals in the final quarter compared to KES' 6 goals, however Millfield could not make up for the 10 goal difference scored against them in the first quarter. All in all an excellent game and Millfield played with pride and refused give up!

Millfield U15A v KES, Bath - Lost 16 - 33

The girls started really well in a fast paced game from the onset. A few simple mistakes that belied their quality, but the Millfield girls were still in the game after the first quarter 11-7. The KES girls 'upped' their level in the second half and pulled away. Kim Martin and Rhiannon Perrin played exceptionally in defence as their worked hard to counter the effect of a 6ft(!) goal shooter. The Millfield Girls continued to work hard and managed to turnover three KES centres in the third quarter - score going into the final quarter 29-12. It has been a tough term for the girls and I was extremely proud to see the girls raise and adapt their game to play a physical and attacking game. The girls fitness showed in the final quarter and although we lost, the score in the final quarter was 4-4. Well done girls, have a wonderful Easter!

Millfield U15B v KES, Bath - Draw 23 - 23

What an exciting last game of the season and with no reserves in sight everyone had to fight fight fight! Many thanks to Mikeala for her encouraging team song (be aggressive..be be aggressive...) and boy we had to be so! We shot in to the lead in the first half with secure passes and every opportunity to intercept from Tracey Esu was taken. Katrina fought every inch of the way as Centre and Mikeala demonstrated excellent balance and accurate shooting as GA. The third quarter saw our sure shots decline as we lost some possession but Amy Winslow and Libby McIntosh ensured our safe defence to limit the damage. The last quarter was tense as we strove to equalise with Maddy Wood and Olivia Norton showing determined attack. Well done girls!!!

Millfield U14A v KES, Bath - Won 40 - 17
"The U14A's played King Edwards, Bath as our last match of the season and we definitely ended the season a high. Although we had a bit of a slow start, we soon found our rhythm with the final score being 40-17 to us. Indie & Livvy shot very well and our defence was a lot stronger than theirs so overall the whole team played really well. Ladies of the Match were Megan (1st quarter), Livvy & Indie (2nd quarter), Abby (3rd quarter) and then the last quarter was Dibby who played well and intercepted loads."

This was an excellent end to the season with all the girls displaying improved netballing skills and great team spirit . It was a shame Ellie , Grace and Katya were injured for this final game but the whole squad should be delighted with such a solid season of netball . Bring on next year!!!
( Mrs W.)

Millfield U14B v KES, Bath - Won 26 - 16

"Today was our last game of the season and we won 26-16! In the first quarter we started off a bit hyper and the scores remained close. In the second quarter Tash injured her hand but we pressed on and Sadie came to the rescue in the third quarter and with Phoebe pulled off some great shots. There were a few ‘iffy' decisions and a few too many stray balls but in the final quarter we managed to hold on and pull away from KES to claim victory. Well done to everyone, we all nominate Phoebe as Lady of the Match but we all deserved it!"

Well done to all the girls who played on Saturday, you were a bit hyper to start with but quickly pulled yourselves together, put in maximum effort and truly deserved the win. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you and wish you the best in next year's season! Miss Bond

Millfield U14C v KES, Bath - Won 18 - 8

"Our match today was very successful having won with a score of 18-8. This is mainly because everyone got into space promptly which made passing easier and more fluent. We all stuck to our players and our interceptions were amazing! One thing we need to work on is our footwork and making sure we don't obstruct people. Lady of the Match was Amber Harris."

All the girls we have played in a match this season have represented the school really well. It was so nice to end the season with such a fantastic win. Well done girls! Miss Fazal

Millfield v Mercury (League) - Won

Wednesday 23rd March

Millfield U14B v Wells Cathedral - Won 27 - 12

I think that the match was played very well and there was great teamwork. The shooting was amazing by India Maxey. Everyone put in 100% and everyone was willing to try new positions. The players of the match were Zoe for being an excellent centre and India for her excellent shooting. By Freya and Abi.

Millfield U14C v Wells Cathedral - Won 21 - 5

We had a really strong team against Wells Cathedral, everyone played their best and Tash Ibori's shooting was amazing as usual. Our defenders were also very strong, we almost intercepted every pass. Overall we had a very successful game. Also it was very sunny for a change. By Rachel Hewitson

Millfield U15A v Wells Cathedral - Lost 20-38

This was a colourful match kicking off with a hearty pace right from the start from a strong Wells team. Savvy defence from Jane Considine as GD and Maisie Eldridge as Centre helped to limit the score. The middle two quarters saw Millfield rise in drive and focus and the scores narrowed significantly. Excellent play by ‘make yourself big' Rhiannon Perrin as GK, superfast Ally Hussey as Centre and a relentless Meghan Gillespie as WD really helped. Gen Brown, Hannah Buckland and Livvy Bellak had great shooting. Unfortunately Wells reserved the ‘big guns' for the last quarter and despite great support from Eleanor Mocatta and Kim Martin the Umpire at the other end was kept very busy!

Millfield U16B v Wells Cathedral - Lost 31 - 34

This was an example of how a come-back can happen! The team were 19 - 28 down after the 3rd quarter, and the last quarter was a culmination of the sort of netball we like to play! The first half was steady, but Wells achieved some turnover centres, which enabled them to get ahead. We then lost focus and gave the ball away on several occasions. We also lost our shooting accuracy, and this put a lot of pressure on the defence. However, we did not give up, and showed just how we can pass and keep possession, finally shooting some amazing goals. Well done!

Millfield 2nds v Wells Cathedral - Won 30 - 29

This was a lovely game of netball played in a great competitive spirit. Both teams played skilful netball but neither could dominate due to the very even standard in all positions. The game remained very close throughout which was very exciting. We managed to creep a couple goals ahead at the beginning of the last quarter and then maintained possession of the ball in the last couple of minutes to win by just one goal.

Wednesday 16th March

Millfield U16A/2nds v Blundells - Won 33 - 17

On Wednesday 16th Millfield U16A plus a couple of the 2nd team players faced Blundell's 2nd VII. In the first quarter the game was closely fought but unfortunately Millfield suffered an injury and had to make quite a few changes to the set up. In the remaining two mins of the first quarter Millfield secured a few ‘turnovers' and the quarter finished 8 -4. The second quarter was more difficult and Blundell's won this quarter bringing the score to Millfield 15 - Blundell's 12. Something happened in the break because Millfield came out fighting in the third quarter and started to play together as a team. Meghan Griffiths was influential making several interceptions in the defensive circle and the team really benefitted from the return of Danielle Morgan playing GA. The finishing score at the end of the game was Millfield 33 - Blundell's 17.

Millfield 2nds/3rds v Blundells - Lost 28 - 35

Millfield U16B v Blundells - Lost main match 9 - 25 (3 Quarters)

Won the last quarter 3 - 2, and won the EXTRA 5 Minutes of play, 3 - 2!
This was our main match, and it had 2 difficult quarters and one good one! We started the game well, having completed a good warm up, and looked ready for the match. We soon lost confidence, as the opposition seemed so much taller than us! Their shooter was having a great match with goals going in from all distances and directions! However, we never gave up, and kept encouraging our inexperienced players. At the second quarter, we changed positions, and this helped to create strength in the centre court, and we kept possession for longer. In the 3rd quarter, we seemed to lose confidence again, and the other team played very well. After a score of 25 - 9, the umpires decided that in order to develop a more balanced game, and reinforce a positive educational feel, they changed round positions for us. This worked a treat, and resulted in a closely fought game, with both teams benefitting from the experience. It was also agreed that for fun, both teams would play an extra 5 minutes, with ALL players playing completely out of position. This proved great fun, and allowed two of our girls to score their first goals for Millfield!! Thank you to Blundell's!!

Millfield U15A/B v Blundells - Lost 11 - 14

We started off a bit slow due to adjustments (new people) in the team. The score at the end of the first half was 8-4 but by the end of the 3rd quarter we had caught up with the opposition and the score was 10-9 to Blundells. We had a good team put together but unfortunately we lost 11-14. A close game - well done everyone!

Millfield U14B v Blundells - Won 35 - 4

"We won each of the 4 quarters with a final score of 35-4. At the end of the first quarter we were winning 9-0 and at half time 16-3. We said we wanted to achieve 20 goals by the end of the third quarter and beat this target with a score of 25-4, we then decided to aim to reach 30 by the end of the match and the shooters Katya & Phoebe had some great shots scoring 10 goals in the final quarter bringing our total to 35. The defence did a fantastic job of intercepting the ball and the centre court players were really quick in getting the ball to the shooters. Everyone played really well and truly tried their best and a big well done to Tash who was voted Player of the Match by the opposition for her great shooting and interceptions. Thank you to Miss Bond and Miss Hadfield who took us here."

Millfield 1st v Keinton Mandeville (League) - Won 43 - 22

This was an interesting match as Keinton had managed to put together a strong team. It was clear early in the game that we would have to work hard to get a good result. It was also evident early on that we looked tired and were making bad decisions and errors frequently. It was not pretty but we kept going and ground out a score line that keeps us unbeaten and at the top of the table with only 3 matches remaining.

Saturday 12th March

Millfield 1st v Marlborough - Won 18 - 10

It took us a few minutes to get into the game but once settled we dominated the game throughout. A consistent performance from all the girls.

Millfield 1st v Portsmouth Grammar School - Won 21 - 13

It was a close 1st half against Portsmouth, who had a very tall defence. We adapted well for the second half with Abby and Milly creating space in the shooting circle and both shooting with precision. The whole team stepped up to support the shooters to make it a excellent win against a good Portsmouth team.

Millfield U16A/2nds v Marlborough & Portsmouth

Marlborough Lost 9 - 15
Porstmouth Won 13 - 9

Millfield U16A's (plus a couple of 2nd team players to make up the team) travelled to Marlborough to play in a triangular match. The first match against Marlborough was physical and Millfield found it difficult at times to feed Mattie Williams (GS) and maintain possession of the ball. At half time the score was 6 - 5 to Marlborough. It was decided that some team changes were needed, particularly to accommodate Meghan Griffiths in the circle and add more height to the shooting circle. The first five minutes were a bit of a disaster, with ball after ball being chucked away, as the girls struggled to adjust to the new positions. However, Millfield kept working together as a team and managed to pull back a couple of goals. The final score was Marlborough 15 - Millfield 9.
In the second match Millfield played much better and Shelby Baker started to become more comfortable in the position of GA. They were a tall team but there were still some mistakes made when feeding the circle which led to Portsmouth Grammar School intercepting the ball - luckily they were not as successful with their shooting. At half time the Portsmouth team were switched around but the final score after both halves left Millfield winning the match 13 - 9.

Millfield U16B v Marlborough & Portsmouth

Marlborough Lost 8 - 33
Portsmouth U16 A team Lost 0 - 19
Portsmouth 2nd VII Lost 4 - 9

The Millfield U16 B team experienced two miss-matches last week, and struggled to stay motivated for the first two games. My thanks to the senior girls who stepped in and played their best and thank you to the two inexperienced girls who tried hard, and felt that they had learnt much during the afternoon. In the final game, which was only 12 minutes long, due to an unfortunate mix-up with the fixture, both teams enjoyed an equally competitive game. We had tried many combinations throughout the afternoon, and gave players the chance to play together for the first time. All credit to them for keeping their heads up, and continuing to try hard.

Millfield U15A v Marlborough - Lost 15 - 22

Millfield U15A v Portsmouth Grammar School - Lost 14 - 21

Millfield U15B v Marlborough - Lost 14 - 27

This was a tough match from the start but Millfield kept a firm hold of defence to limit the score. Unfortunately the Marlborough team also had the same idea and succeeded in keeping our shooters too far from the post to pocket some well needed goals. There were excellent contributions from Gen Brown and Tracey Esu with some great interceptions, plus Katrina San and Maddie Wood gave sharp shooting. Manon, Prim and Yara also did well to hold their nerve against an intimidating team.
Overall the standard in this match was much better than the first and we proved we could learn from our mistakes and move on.

Millfield U15B v Portsmouth Grammar School - Lost 11 - 27

Millfield took a little while to warm up in this match against a strong opposition. PGS gained goal advantage quickly through interception, long passes and open attack team members before the U15b's realised that they actually wanted to win! The second third saw a much more focused effort especially from Libby McIntosh as a fast GD and Tracey Esu as Centre and this helped to limit the goals for the opposition and the realisation that a more aggressive and determined approach was worth the work. The match showed Maddie Woods' versatility as attacker or defender as GK and GS and Michaela Richardson's established enthusiasm as a basketball convert. Katrina Sanexcelled in her ‘split legs' to gain space near the posts and shoot with care.

Millfield U14A/B's v Marlborough - Won 18 - 15

"All of the girls played great! From having amazing shots to unfortunate injuries we battled it out. In the first third we were behind 6-0 but because Marlborough had brought a mixed A/B side we did the same and brought some of our A's on and managed to turn the game around. Well done girls!"

Millfield U14A v Portsmouth Grammar School - Lost 18 - 21

"This match was great although we lost despite winning 2 of the thirds of the game. The first third we won 5-4, the 2nd was a bit loopy for us and so they came back 17-11. However we pulled it back together to get 7-4 to us in the final third but over the score was 21-18 to them. We gave the game our best and played brilliantly, although not so great in the middle third. Well done Girls. "

Millfield U14B/C's v Marlborough - Lost 11 - 16

"This match was great although we lost, we started strong but the other team slowly crept up on us. After the first third it was 4-8. The second was 5-14 but we attacked really well, our defending let us down slightly though. The end result was 11-16 but this was good as we were a C team and they were more of a B team. Congratulations to Abby Hacker although she may have been a bit too enthusiastic with her defending as she knocked a player over. Well done team!"

Millfield U14B v Portsmouth Grammar School - Lost 10 - 23

"Overall it was a great match and everyone played really well. Although the score had quite a large gap the shooters did really well. The defence was outstanding as many interceptions were made and everyone kept their positions. The player of the match would have to be Lindsey Reid for her great defending and getting the ball up the court. Well done everyone!"

Millfield U14C v Portsmouth Grammar School - Lost 9 - 23

"Millfield played well, even though PGS were a very strong side. We got into good spaces and put in loads of effort and even though we lost we played really well as a team. We do need to work our passes and timing. They were fast and we did get tired but overall we played well."

Thursday 10th March

Millfield 1st U19 County Cup - Winners

We won all our matches in the group stages. Beating a good Wells Cathedral side 7 - 5, King's, Taunton 9 - 1, Taunton School 8 - 6 and Bruton 18 - 2. We faced Queens in the semi final which did not prove to be difficult winning 9 - 2. The final against TauntonSchool was a very stop start affair; they deliberately broke down the flow of our game by obstructing persistently. It was very low scoring and with only seconds remaining Taunton equalised to make it 3 goals each to take it to extra time. We managed to keep the upper hand and lead by one at the end to take the trophy. Well done girls.

Millfield U15A, U15 County Cup

V Kings, Taunton Lost 5 - 9
V Kings, Bruton Drew 4 - 4
V Wells Cathedral Lost 3 - 9
V Heathfield Won 9 - 4

Saturday 5th March

Millfield 1st v Christ College, Brecon 1st - Won 52 - 18

A strong performance by all players saw us dominate the match right from the start. Abby Rimmer‘s shooting was superb despite the presence of Christ College's very tall goal keeper. Both teams worked really hard throughout and therefore it was an exciting and competitive match throughout despite the score line and was enjoyable for spectators, players and official alike.

Millfield U16B v Christ College, Brecon - Lost 10 - 16

This was a game of a gradual increase of the opposition scoring, in each quarter. The whole game was quite close, but at times Christ College showed us how quickly the ball can be taken from a back line pass, into their attacking circle. However, they also lost control of themselves as we put them under pressure. We had some clean possession of the ball, from centres, and made careful decisions about where to pass the ball safely. The shooters were put under pressure by the opposition defenders, experiencing some unpleasant contact at times in the game. We could have made more use of the advantage the penalty passes and shots gave us, but it was difficult to learn to do this quickly in a game. Our team played well, considering we had not played together before, and we used our strong players to help keep possession, when we were closely marked. Getting free was hard, and some players made outstanding efforts to improve.

Millfield participates in a host of local, regional and national netball competitions. More specific information about this term’s fixtures and results can be found here.
