Cricket

Millfield cricket has enjoyed one of its most successful seasons for many years. At Senior level the First Team was unbeaten against all schools, losing only one match against a very strong Gloucestershire County side. The season concluded with wins at the Tonbridge Cricket Festival and on entering the 20/20 Competition for the first time, achieved the title of Champions. The final was an exciting one, played at Edgbaston against John Fishers School. Millfield chased down a target of 200 with more than an over to spare.

Two boys left school early to further their cricketing careers. Craig Keiswetter has taken up a two year contract offer at Somerset County Cricket Club and Kieran Powell remained in the West Indies after impressing in their domestic 20/20 Competition shown live on Sky TV.

At Junior level, the Under 14’s were successful in winning the County Cup. They were also unbeaten against other school teams and played excellent cricket against strong representative sides.

The Under 15’s triumphed in the inaugural schools competition of the 20/20 Cup beating Sedbergh comfortably at Headingly. A fantastic achievement for them, as over 1100 schools entered the competition.

The U14 A side of 2005 was by no means the strongest of recent years and was very disappointing in its quarter final exit in the Somerset County Cup. To the team’s great credit however, it had an excellent record in school matches against county standard opposition. This age group also provided four players in the nationals team in Charlie Ellison, Ross Jenkins, Aneurin Norman and Jack Waller.
