Top Millfield tennis pupils excel in Malta

Millfield Year 11 pupil Scott Clayton won both his singles and doubles finals at the European Tennis Association's Under-16 event in Malta on Friday 18th December.

Scott played superbly well all week, playing in very windy conditions against players who were ranked a lot higher than himself.

In the singles final, which lasted just under three hours, he defeated the number one seed, Romanian Andrei Aureti, in three sets (6-7, 6-2, 6-2) before going on to win the doubles final with fellow Millfield pupil, Lower Sixth Former Tim McLarty, who defeated the number one seeds, Aureti and fellow Romanian Stefan Vinti, 7-6, 6-2.

Scott then went on to play in the 16 and Under Nottingham Grand Prix two days later. He made it through to the semi final, where he was beaten in the final four by the tournament's number two seed Joshua Page in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
