Millfield win National Schools Equestrian Association Championships

The Millfield riding team are celebrating after winning the National Schools Equestrian Association Championships in Buckinghamshire last weekend.

Millfield entered both the show jumping and arena eventing championships after qualifying earlier this year and were victorious in both.

The show jumping team of Charlotte Bonnar, Jessica Boyce, Tommy Quesnel and Lucy Quesnel produced a good performance in the semi-finals in the morning to secure a place in the final.

The course proved extremely challenging throughout the morning and many teams progressed to the final without producing their best performance.

In the meantime the arena eventing championships took place in the afternoon.

After the morning's performance, the team of Bonnar, Boyce, Tommy Quesnel and Charlotte East rallied to showcase the fruits of Millfield's intensive training and recorded an unbeatable performance around the long and challenging indoor arena course.

Quesnel's style marks of just nine penalties with a clean jumping score were outstanding and East was not far behind.

The other two rode tactically to maintain the winning team score, beating more than 20 teams from around the country.

Buoyed by this success, the show jumping team went into their finals in the evening with renewed determination.

The Quesnel twins were both on ponies, so had the advantage of being able to ride tight turns in fast, clean rounds. Bonnar and Boyce, on larger horses, rode for careful clear rounds.

Being the second team to compete, Millfield had to wait for the rest of the eight finalists to finish before discovering their fate.

The score proved enough to win and they came away from a long and hard-fought day with two championship victories .

Millfield director of riding Danny Anholt said: "Our riders improved as the day went on and they performed very well in the final. The victories were thoroughly deserved and they are a great reward for the hard-work the riders have put in this year."
