Millfield athletics team progress to ESAA Cup national round

The Millfield boys and girls athletics teams progressed to the ESAA Cup national round after both finished third in the regional stages.

The girls' team finished behind Queens College and winners Newquay after each athlete completed the 2.8km course.

Reading Blue won the boys' competition ahead of The Stonehenge School. Millfield Prep School played host to the competition.

Coach Jason Allen said: "I'm delighted that we qualified for the national round of this competition. They were all very close races and our Millfield athletes competed to a very high standard."

Millfield will now travel to Princethorpe College in Warwickshire at the beginning of December for the national round of the competition.

Last weekend Millfield athletes were in Berry Hill in Mansfield to compete in the national cross country relay.
Millfield entered two young teams into the U20 event, with one boy only 15 and the rest in the Sixth Form.

Sam Bedford ran the fastest 3km leg with a time of 10.04m and the slowest leg took just 25 seconds longer.

Millfield's A Team finished 42nd out of 78 teams and the B Team finished 49th.

Coach Jason Allen said: "It was a very high standard of club competition and Millfield was one of only a few schools competing. Mo Farah was competing so it was nice for the pupils to see him in action."
