Millfield swimmer breaks British junior records

Millfield swimmer James Guy is celebrating after breaking two British junior records at last weekend's Stockport Open Meet.

Guy, who lives in Street, cruised to victory in the 200m butterfly with a record-breaking time of 2:00.82m. The time slashed three seconds off the previous record.

He then followed-up with a time of 1:50.10m in the 200m freestyle to secure another record.

He said: "It's been a big ambition for me to break these records so I'm over the moon. I couldn't have done it without all the support from my family and friends.

"I was nervous before the race because it was my last chance to break these records but my mind was focused on the target from the start."

Millfield went away from the competition as the top visiting club after winning 36 events. Nearly every pupil swam a personal best.

Millfield Head of Swimming Jolyon Finck said: "All the swimmers were in sensational form and it was a very successful weekend.

"James did superb to break the two records and it is a reward for all the hard-work he has put in this year."
