Music School and Concert Hall
Millfield Concert Hall is a significant venue for the performing arts much more than just a school hall. The acoustic of the hall is designed primarily for classical music performance and is adjustable with the use of motorised drapes. The stage offers a large performance area on a solid oak floor and is enhanced by a visual design based around the wooden acoustic treatment. A comprehensive system of lighting has been installed offering a dynamic environment ranging from basic house lighting to elaborate theatrical effects. A PA system complements this along with help for the hearing impaired. The Foyer is used both in the traditional way for events and also as a rehearsal space during the school day.
The building as a whole divides into three segments Concert Hall, Music School and Studio Suite. Elaborate sound insulation has been a major factor in the design along with provision of practice and teaching facilities second to none, including six classrooms and twenty-two practice rooms. Studio facilities can be linked to the Concert Hall and together they form a superb performance and recording space.
