Scholarship & Bursaries
Millfield Prep
We award a number of Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sports Scholarships each year for entry into Years 6, 7 and 8 for new pupils (into Years 6 and 7 only for existing pupils already attending Millfield Prep).
Millfield Prep scholarships offer a 5% fee reduction (outstanding pupils in multiple fields may be awarded up to 10%) and awards are usually increased to the maximum 10% on transition to Millfield, subject to a review of pupil’s behaviour and progression expectations associated with their award. Parents who do not require financial assistance are encouraged to accept their child's Scholarship on an honorary basis.
Additionally, our Millfield Prep Award recognises Prep pupils who are talented all-rounders (strong academics and talented in any two areas from Art, Drama, Music, Sport). Please note that this award is only for Years 6, 7 and 8 whilst at Millfield Prep School and will automatically end on transfer to Year 9. Pupils who hold a Millfield Prep Award may apply for a new Scholarship for entry into Year 9 and these are currently available for Academic, Co-curricular and Sport.
Parents in genuine financial need can apply to have a Scholarship augmented by a bursary, subject to a means test. Parents applying for a bursary will be asked to complete a confidential financial circumstances form, available from the Fees Department. All awards are subject to the school’s ability to fund them within the context of its overall budget, and therefore levels cannot be guaranteed.
Please do not hesitate to contact our Prep Admissions team on prepadmissions@millfieldschool.com should you have any queries. Pupils who live overseas should contact the Admissions department prior to submitting a scholarship application.

Scholarship assessments take place in the academic year preceding entry and are open to students who have an excellent school report and recommendation from their headteacher. Candidates should be under 13 years of age on the 1 September 2025 if they are applying for a Year 9 Scholarship for September 2026 entry.
Important information for bursary applicants:
Where a child is judged suitable to receive an award, the amount of any assistance in addition to a scholarship is assessed on a means-tested basis on the extent of need. Factors which the School may take into account include but are not limited to:
- The ability to improve the financial position or earning power of the family
- Opportunities to release any capital (including investments and significant equity value in houses)
- The costs of any siblings at the School
- In cases of divorce or separation, the contribution made by both parents (unless otherwise directed by a Court Order)
- Any contribution to fees or other household costs by other family members or other outside sources
All awards are subject to the School’s ability to fund them within the context of its overall budget and cannot therefore be guaranteed. The School seeks to support as many children as possible through its limited scholarship and bursary funds. In particular, the School’s ability to fund high value awards is limited and such awards are allocated to children with exceptional talent or potential where there is a genuine financial need.
