The Millfield Languages Department has been really inspiring for me, I now take two languages for GCSE. The impressive academic extension opportunities have stretched me, and I enjoy the challenge. These opportunities have included extra challenges in lessons, UKMT Maths Challenges, the Bebras Computing Challenge and the Language and Science Olympiads. In Bebras, I was pleased to score in the top 1% of students across the country in the intermediate category. My highlights have been; the Team Maths Challenge, where my friends and I competed in a national competition in my favourite subject; and the Languages Olympiad, where a small group of us deciphered some unknown complex languages and achieved a gold certificate.

I play the piano and I have made lots of progress, thanks to the amazing Music Department. I achieved a distinction in grade 6 piano and am working on my grade 7. The Director of Music, Mr Cook, motivates and inspires me as he is so passionate about music and is a pianist himself. He has encouraged me to take many opportunities that have developed my musical skills to a level that I never believed they would reach.

My mission at Millfield is to be on one of the ‘boards of achievers’ in swimming. I have progressed significantly thanks to James Clarke and the rest of the swimming team, winning a silver medal in the Nationals. The team have helped me achieve things that I could only have dreamed of before I came here.

One of my friends, Solomon, is very similar to me academically, plays the piano and is a fantastic swimmer. I wouldn’t have developed nearly as much without this competition which has inspired me to push myself even harder. After I leave Millfield, I hope to keep pursuing swimming. I would love to study an area of science or maths at the University of Oxford or Cambridge. My biggest inspiration, because of how many things he has revolutionised, is Elon Musk. My aim is to get a job in the astrophysics field, as I find this very interesting.
