Jami
Lower Sixth (joined Millfield Prep School in Year 6)
Millfield is a school for anyone who wants to achieve great things and is willing to put the work in. My belief is that you can achieve anything, no matter your background, ethnicity or social status. It is the determination to keep getting up whenever you’re faced with adversities, that will lead you to where you want to go. No day is the same when boarding at Millfield, but the experience and sharing a room means that I am constantly inspired to perform at my best. The person who motivates and inspires me to keep dreaming big is Oprah Winfrey.

For A level, I have chosen to study psychology, German and geography. This is because I would like to increase my knowledge of different cultures in addition to understanding people’s psyche behind making world-changing decisions. By being bilingual and possessing more cultural understanding, I hope to make myself a more culturally diverse and well-rounded person.
I am hoping to get a scholarship to study in America and further my athletics career, following my aspiration of achieving Olympic success.I have managed to further my athletics whilst at Millfield, and the Director of Athletics Mr Richardson has really supported me with this; I even managed to win a national title in the long jump as a decathlete. After athletics, I would like to pursue a career in TV broadcasting. To support this, I have been involved with recording episodes of the Millfield Way podcast with other students and gaining experience with Glastonbury FM as part of a Sixth Form enrichment opportunity. For the latter, a group of us interviewed local entrepreneur and Glastonbury Festival co-founder, Michael Eavis, discussing the festival’s history and its important relationship with the community of Pilton.
