My goal is to reach the best version of myself. Millfield has taught me that hard work beats talent every time, and with work ethic, determination and consistency, anything is possible. As the Director of Swimming, Euan Dale once said ‘mentality outweighs physicality.'
"I chose to come to Millfield because of the many sporting opportunities that a school like this presents."
To be able train under the experienced coaches and to follow in the footsteps of the many great athletes who have passed through is incredible. Swimmers like Euan Dale, Mark Foster, Duncan Goodhew, Helen Gouldby and more recently James Guy and Matt Richards, I knew this was the ideal place for me.
Before joining I never knew my full potential and my limits, but since the coaches have taught me these abilities, given me the technical expertise and confidence, it has shown me what I’m capable of and to believe how far I can potentially go in the sport.
One of my favourite aspects of Millfield Swimming is the endless amount of support I receive, whether it’s Kerion Piper motivating me in training or before my race or it’s Rachel Aldington giving me technical feedback.
For A levels I have chosen BTEC sport and business. I chose BTEC sport as it aligns well with swimming, as I am able to understand the anatomy and physiology of the sport in more depth, business will help me to develop skills for the future using finance and to even maybe run a sports related business.
After Millfield I am hoping to further my swimming career by joining a National Centre either in Bath or Manchester to continue my development and compete at the highest level. Being a part of the National Centre would allow me to be working with world class coaches and be able to train alongside Olympians who share the same dreams and ambitions as me.
For someone who is considering joining Millfield my advice is to work hard, be disciplined and believe. Millfield can offer incredible opportunities for all athletes, it requires a strong work ethic both in and out of the pool, be passionate and committed.
