We are now looking to appoint a new Deputy Head (Pastoral) who will be responsible to the Head, and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, will be the Head’s key adviser on all matters relating to the pastoral care of students, house staff and the boarding programme. Key strategic responsibilities will include leading on pastoral, behavioural and boarding policies, as well as participation in collective leadership responsibility for the whole school culture and strategic planning. The Deputy Head (Pastoral) will also have operational responsibilities managing staff and aspects of campus and events organisation.
The successful candidate will be a confident, dynamic and collaborative leader with an outstanding track record of pastoral leadership, development and management. Along with excellent interpersonal and communications skills, they will bring substantial experience of working at pace to deliver change and implement robust systems and strategies. Join our prestigious team at Millfield School as a Senior Groom, where you will play a vital role in our renowned Equestrian Centre. With up to 40 horses and top-notch facilities including indoor and outdoor arenas, Millfield School offers an exciting and dynamic environment for passionate equestrians like you.
As the Senior Groom, your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of duties, ensuring the highest standards of horse care and stable management. Working closely with the Stable Manager, you will oversee the following key areas:
· Assist the Stable Manager in running a professional livery service.
· Support students with their own and the school’s horses and promote a healthy learning environment.
· Feed and Nutrition: Utilise your expertise to ensure that each horse receives appropriate and balanced feeds, tailored to their individual needs and activity levels.
· Feedstock management and ordering.
· Detailed Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of chargeable items, providing meticulous information to the office for efficient administrative processes.
· Exemplary Horse Care: Uphold the highest standards of horse care, conducting regular checks of tack and equipment.
· Communication and Liaison: In the absence of the Stable Manager, establish clear and effective communication channels with clients, vets, farriers, suppliers, and other relevant parties. Keep the Head of Equestrian Sports and the team informed of any pertinent changes.
· Horse Health Emergencies: During the Stable Manager's absence, take responsibility for handling horse health emergencies.
· Competition and Event Preparation: Ensure that horses, equipment, and vehicles are suitably prepared for competitions and events, ensuring their proper reception, cleaning, and storage upon their return.
· Perform all routine duties of horse care and management of a Millfield groom.
· Lead a team of grooms in the Stable Manager’s absence to undertake all daily activities.
The ideal candidate will have industry experience in maintaining high standards of horse care, be confident in handling fit competition horses, and possess a good understanding of the nutritional needs of a variety of horses. Additionally, you will demonstrate confidence in leading a team in the absence of the Stable Manager with previous supervisory experience.
This is a full-time, all year-round position working 6.45am-6.30pm during term time and 7.30am-5.30pm during non-term time (1.5hrs lunch break) for five days per week. In return, you will receive a salary of £30,201.60 per annum, along with a range of staff benefits.

Millfield School is looking to recruit a Multi-Sport Coach (football and a summer sport) to design, deliver and administer technical coaching and competition support to the Millfield Sport Programme.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about developing young athletes, with the ability to engage and motivate students across a wide range of ages and abilities. Key responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
· Supporting sport delivery across school sport programmes across football (term 1 and 2) plus support to a summer sport in term 3
· Developing and delivering high quality, engaging and enjoyable coaching sessions for all students
· Supporting heads of sport in advance planning, preparation and communication of the Millfield Sport Programme
· Attending specified competitions as agreed with the relevant head of sport. This may require occasional trips away with the team.
The successful individual will have experience of coaching within a school environment across a range of sports and at least one sporting qualification at UEFA B or above (football). They may also have either of the following:
- at least one additional sporting qualification to level 1 or above
- more than 3 years’ experience coaching or supporting a second sport
- qualification as a PE teacher
This is a term time only role working an average of 12 hours per week for which you will receive a salary of £10,756.51 per annum (inclusive of statutory holiday pay), supplemented by an extensive range of benefits.

Athletics Development Coach (Endurance)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified coach of Athletics to work 14 hours per week during term-time. This role will focus on the coaching of Endurance Athletics and will assist with developing the department strategy and objectives.
Millfield is an independent boarding school with outstanding pastoral and co-curricular activities, set in the heart of Somerset. We cater for approximately 1300 pupils aged 13 to 18, all of whom are engaged in sport and physical activities. We have outstanding facilities and a vibrant multisport environment. Recent investment in our athletics provision means we can boast of an upgraded track with an eight-lane sprint straight, a six lane 400m track, an updated long jump pit and state-of-the-art pole vault area with double entry mat. As one of the UK’s leading schools for sports provision, pupils at Millfield also have access to onsite strength and conditioning coaches, physiotherapy, performance analysis and a nutritionist.
As an Athletics Development Coach, you will support the year-round coaching of Endurance Athletics at Millfield School, including Track Athletics, Cross Country, and assisting with the development of Strength and Conditioning programmes for Endurance Athletics. Sessions are usually after school and during lunch periods, Monday to Saturday.
To be successful in this role you will be qualified to minimum standard of UK Athletics level 2 coaching award (or equivalent), have proven experience of coaching to English Schools Championships level and have a proven track record of supporting Athletes from school/ club to ESAA Champs. Experience of coaching to international schools’ level would also be an advantage.
In exchange for your dedication, you will be rewarded with a salary of £10,797.62 per annum (inclusive of statutory holiday pay).

Millfield School is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to fill the position of Swimming Pool and Sports facilities Duty Manager and Swim Teacher. This role presents a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic professional to play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality swimming lessons and overseeing the day-to-day operations of our leisure facilities.
Duties for the role will include managing our dedicated staff while upholding the highest safety and safeguarding standards, to being a hands-on swim teacher during state term time. As a key point of contact for Millfield Swim School parents, you'll keep the gears turning smoothly, coordinating schedules and exploring innovative ways to boost the Swim School's success. With a strong focus on customer care, you'll connect with swim clubs, champion staff training, and collaborate with various departments to make a splash in facility management.
The ideal candidate for this position will either possess, or be actively working towards, an SEQ Level 1 or Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification and demonstrate a solid understanding of Swim England Learn-to-Swim stages. Strong leadership skills are essential, as you'll be responsible for motivating and collaborating effectively with your team. Adaptability is crucial, along with the ability to remain composed and effective during emergencies.
This is a full-time, all year-round role working 35 hours per week on a rota basis covering the opening hours of both our swimming pools during days, evenings and weekends. During state term time (39 weeks) a minimum of 12.5 hours per week will be dedicated to swim teaching.

The Millfield Development Office is at an exciting stage of its growth as it looks to play an increasingly central role in the long-term sustainability of the school. With ambitious plans to significantly grow our Endowment Fund ahead of our 100th anniversary in 2035, we are now looking for an experienced development professional to help us achieve our aim and position Millfield as a market leader in the provision of transformational bursaries.
Although the successful candidate will undoubtedly have experience across a breadth of income streams, we are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience of working within a high value fundraising / income generating team. Although experience of operating within the education or broader charity sector would be advantageous, candidates with substantial experience of working in an external facing role in a results driven environment (e.g. fundraising, sales, marketing, recruitment) would also be of interest.
Working closely with the Head of Alumni & Foundation, the Development Manager will be responsible for driving high value revenues across multiple income streams including legacies, events, and corporate philanthropy. In addition to which, this role will focus on driving income from entrepreneurial initiatives aimed at driving revenues into the Foundation via a platform which effects introductions within the alumni and parental communities between entrepreneurs and potential investors - private, institutional and venture capital.
This is full-time role 5 days a week, year-round, with a salary of up to £45,000 per annum. Some weekend and evening work will be required as an integral part of the role is meeting potential and existing donors. Due to the nature of the role, we remain flexible to the location of our ideal candidate. There will be some travel within the UK and potentially some overseas travel.

Millfield School is currently seeking a highly motivated individual who is passionate about all things related to pool management to join us as a full-time Leisure Supervisor from November 2023.
Millfield boasts an exceptional reputation when it comes to swimming, encompassing our comprehensive student swim programs, private lessons, and magnificent 50 and 25-meter pools. Our remarkable team of Supervisors and pool facilities staff are integral to our continued success.
To maintain our high standards, we require applicants with a valid NPLQ certification, and ideally previous experience in lifeguarding and leadership (although this is not essential). As a key member of our team, the ideal candidate should have previous experience working in a busy pool setting and possess a confident and outgoing demeanour, strong communication skills, excellent organisational skills, adeptness in problem-solving, the ability to lead by example, and a willingness to go the extra mile to ensure that all tasks are carried out to the highest standard.
The key responsibilities of this role include being a key holder, leading a team of lifeguards and swim teachers, performing lifeguard duties at both the Millfield Senior Pool and Millfield Prep Pool, and ensuring that all health and safety regulations, codes of practice, and operating procedures are followed at all times to ensure the safety and welfare of all users. You will be responsible for setting up and dismantling equipment, maintaining the facilities' cleanliness and hygiene standards, as well as supervising the Cricket Centre and Golf Centre. Previous experience in the leisure industry or customer service will also be an added advantage.
This is a full-time, all year-round role working 35 hours per week on a rota basis covering the opening hours of both our swimming pools during days, evenings and weekends. We have a range of hours available at both our Street and Glastonbury sites. Housekeeping Cleaners will be responsible for cleaning an allocated area which may be classrooms, offices, sport and art facilities, boarding houses or other school buildings.

Due to the nature of the role the hours of work for most positions can be flexed to meet the requirements of the successful candidate.
Boarding House cleaning hours –
3 hours per day, Monday – Friday, and 2 hours on alternate Saturdays (typically 8.30am-10.30am). This is a year-round post (52 weeks). Start times are flexible between 8.30am and 9.15am. On occasion, you may also be required to work a Sunday during non-term time for which you will receive reasonable notice and the hours back in lieu during the week.

Our aim is to ensure that all students enjoy an equitable, secure, and safe environment in which to complete their exams.
As an Exam Invigilator you may be supporting students on a computer so competency in this area will be an advantage. A practical approach to problem solving, effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
