Teaching Vacancies

Teacher of Business

Due to an expansion to our thriving Business Department we currently have a vacancy for a full-time teacher of Business  Studies to A Level. We are seeking to appoint a committed, organised, and dynamic member of staff. Millfield prizes individuals who demonstrate passion for their subjects and who continually seek to develop their own teaching skillsets.

The successful applicant will be able to teach students across a broad ability range; Business Studies GCSE and A  Level, and BTEC Level 2 and Level 3. Applicants should be interested in seeking to share good practice, be committed to building a culture of enterprise and entrepreneurship, and have the willingness to contribute to the academic extension programme for potential Oxbridge students.

Specialist Learning Support Teacher
Closing date: 26th January 2022

Millfield School are looking for a Specialist Learning Support Teacher to join the Learning Support Centre from April 2022. The successful applicant will have experience in the Learning Support arena, with a minimum Level 5 qualification in SpLD (or, in exceptional cases, to be working towards this) with a focus on improving literacy skills across the subject range.

Head of Computer Science

Millfield wishes to appoint a Head of Computer Science from September 2022 to expand and lead this thriving, forward-looking and well-resourced department. The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for the subject and a desire to inspire this in others. They must also be eager to develop their own teaching skills and share ideas with colleagues. 

The successful candidate should have experience of teaching Computer Science or ICT to all age groups from Year 9 to Upper Sixth. The ability to teach A level Computer Science is desirable. Experience in a management or leadership role (not necessarily as a head of department) is also desirable.

Sports Coaching Vacancies

Graduate Athletic Development Coach 2022/2023

Millfield School are looking to recruit a Graduate Athletic Development Coach for the 2022/23 academic year.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Graduate Athletic Development positions at Millfield School for the 2022/23 academic year. The role will make a positive contribution to the Millfield Institute of Sport and Wellbeing.

The Graduate Athletic Development Coach will be responsible for supporting the athletic development of pupils aged 13 to 18. The Graduate Athletic Development Coach will deliver athletic training aligned with the school’s athletic development principles and philosophy to pupils participating in a wide range of sports.

Support Staff Vacancies

Boarding House Matron

Matron (Portway)
Closing date 2nd February 2022

Millfield School is seeking a caring individual to work as a Matron, providing pastoral support in a girls only boarding house. Hours of work are 11am – 6pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during term time only. The ability to work with some basic IT systems is preferred. As a Matron you will be joining a small team of staff who work together to ensure that the pupils feel safe, secure and at home, whilst also playing a pivotal part in making sure the house runs smoothly and efficiently.

HR Assistant

Due to an internal promotion, an opportunity has arisen for an HR Assistant to provide proactive and efficient support to the Head of HR and wider HR Team. This is a varied and exciting role, providing exposure across the HR function within a large and successful independent boarding school.

Working within an HR team, and reporting to the Head of HR, you will be responsible for providing high quality and proactive HR support. You’ll need to be exceptionally well organised, and will poses great interpersonal skills, with the ability to think decisively and act proactively. You won’t mind getting stuck into day-to-day tasks whilst always thinking of the bigger picture. 

This is a full-time position working 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Changing room steward

Millfield Prep school are looking for a Changing room Steward to work 3.30pm-6.00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during term time only. The steward will supervise and care for the general welfare of the pupils and their personal property in the changing room and to keep all areas within the changing room clean and tidy.

Evening Helper

Due to an expansion of the boarding programme at Millfield Prep School we are looking for a number of caring individuals to provide additional support in the houses during the evenings and weekends. We currently have positions for the following hours - Friday 5.30pm-9.30pm, Saturday 5-9pm and Sunday 6-9pm. All hours of work would be during term-time only.

As an Evening Helper your role will be to help with the smooth running of the house and checking on the general welfare of the children. This would include tasks such as assisting with the bedtime routine, checking on those unwell in the house and doing tasks such as laundry, checking and repacking kitbags and preparing snacks.

Swimming Internship
Closing date: 2nd February 2022

We are seeking to employ an Intern for the Spring and Summer terms (as soon as possible until July 2022) to contribute to our sports, physical education and boarding programs, specifically focusing on the development of young swimmers. Sports Interns will have the opportunity to develop some of the knowledge and skills gained previously either from schooling or from an Undergraduate degree. Successful candidates should be confident, reliable and have good interpersonal skills as well as showing a willingness to be involved in all areas of school life. Specific subject knowledge in swimming would be an advantage.

The posts runs from as soon as possible until the beginning of July, with breaks for School holidays. Remuneration is circa £5,800 for the length of the contract depending on start date, plus board and lodging during term time and a contribution towards professional development (e.g. coaching course). In addition to contributing to the above areas, interns will gain experience in boarding houses and help supervise recreation times.

Candidates should either be enrolled in or recently graduated from Sports Science, Sports Coaching or similar degrees. Applicants will have participated regularly to a good standard and ideally hold coaching qualifications in relevant activities.

Swimming Pool and Sports facilities Duty Manager

Millfield has a successful reputation in all things swimming and sport, from our student swim programmes and private lesson to its prestigious 50m pool and state of the art cricket and golf centres. A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Swimming Pool and Sports facilities Duty Manager to join the team. The successful candidate will work with the Pool Manager and Supervisory Team to ensure the smooth and safe operation of Millfield’s swimming pools, cricket and golf centre. With key duties including; supervising the facilities ensuring that all health and safety legislation, codes of practice and operating procedures are complied with at all times to ensure the safety and welfare of all users, deploying and appraising a team of Lifeguard/Leisure Assistants, dismantling equipment, maintaining the standards of hygiene and cleanliness of the facilities, developing Millfield Swim School as its key point of contact.

School Shop Assistant

We are seeking a shop assistant to work in our senior school shop on a part-time basis. A flexible, proactive and professional approach is essential, whilst experience of working in a retail environment would be desirable. Hours of work are 10:30am- 2.00pm Tues and Thurs and 8.15am – 4.45pm on Fridays plus 8.15am – 1.pm on alternate Saturdays. This is primarily a term time role however you will be required to work 6 weeks in the summer holidays, during which time you will be required to work an additional 8 hours per week.

School Nurse
Closing Date: Recruitment ongoing, multiple positions available 

 We are currently recruiting for two part-time school nurses, one position at Millfield School and one position at Millfield Prep.

At Millfield School we are seeking an RGN to work 18 hours per week during term time only. Hours are flexible over morning and late shifts. Occasional additional hours (day and night shifts) are also available to provide cover when necessary.

Millfield Prep School is seeking a Nurse to join the school on a part-time basis during term time, plus an additional 2 weeks during the school holidays. Hours are worked out as an average of 22.5 per week but are allocated on a rota basis over the days of Monday – Saturday and include early/ late shifts.  Your role is to provide skilled safe and effective nursing care for the pupils, staff and visitors to Millfield Prep School, and key responsibilities include the in-patient care of pupils admitted to the Sick Bay, arranging health appointments for boarding pupils, organising doctor’s surgeries and performing first aid/ emergency care when needed.

Millfield Community Officer

Millfield School is looking for a positive and dynamic individual to join the Millfield Community Team. As a Millfield Community Officer, your role is to support the community by maintaining a safe and secure environment and to support the operational requirements of the school.  The main duties include high visibility foot patrol, community engagement, management of school deliveries, event set up, operation of CCTV and securing of assets. A driving licence is essential, and a Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence is preferable, but training will be provided.  The team prides themselves on providing strong customer service and problem-solving attitude and being adaptable and flexible to the varying requirements of the role.  Millfield Community Officers are provided with a uniform and training to effectively complete their role.  The teamwork full time on an 8-hour rotational shift pattern working mornings, afternoon and nights including weekend working.

Leisure Assistant/ Lifeguard

Millfield is recruiting for Lifeguards/Leisure Assistants to assist with the day to day running of its 50 & 25m swimming pools, plus the state of the art Cricket and Golf Centre facilities. Applicants must hold a valid NPLQ, previous experience in the leisure industry and/or customer service is beneficial however cricket and golf experience is not essential as all training will be provided.

We are looking for people who go the extra mile to ensure all tasks are completed to a high standard. Key duties include pool side Lifeguard shifts and rotations in supervising the Cricket and Golf Centre facilities to ensure the safety and welfare of all users, including erecting and dismantling equipment; and maintaining the standards of hygiene and cleanliness of the facilities.

Hours of work can be flexible around the individual and can include a variety of shifts including early mornings, evenings, and weekends to be allocated on a rota basis.

Full-Time Leisure Supervisor

Millfield School is seeking a Leisure Supervisor on a full-time basis, to work on a rota basis covering the opening hours of both swimming pools during days, evenings and weekends.

As a Leisure Supervisor you will assist the Pool and Facilities Manager and the Duty Manager in the day to day running of Millfield’s swimming pools and a number of their sports complexes. This includes ensuring that all health and safety legislation, codes of practice and operating procedures are complied with at all times, and deploying and appraising a team of Leisure Assistants.

Applicants must hold a valid NPLQ and have lifeguarding experience. Previous experience in the leisure industry and/or customer service is also beneficial. As a Supervisor you will need to be highly organised, great at problem solving and someone who leads by example, going the extra mile to ensure all tasks are completed to a high standard.

Boarding House Cleaners

We are currently looking for individuals with cleaning experience (or a willingness to learn) to join our team of boarding house cleaners.

Millfield School is looking for cleaning staff to work within their boarding houses. The hours of work are Monday – Friday, 3 hours per day and 2 hours every alternate Saturday, plus 12 hours each end of term for a deep clean. This is a year-round post (52 weeks). Start times are flexible between 8.30am and 9.15am.

Campus Facilities Cleaners

Millfield School is seeking additional staff to join their facilities cleaning team at both their Street and Glastonbury sites.

As a Campus Facilities Cleaner at Millfield you will be responsible for cleaning an allocated area which may be classrooms, offices, sport and art facilities or other school buildings. We recognise that we are currently in unusual times and want to provide reassurance that as a cleaner at Millfield you will be provided with appropriate PPE including visors, mask, gloves and a full uniform including safety shoes.

Drivers

Are you confident commanding large vehicles and interesting in some part-time work? We are looking for additional drivers for our fleet of minibuses for regular routes but with the option to pick up additional hours on an ad-hoc basis.

The current routes we have available are Farrington Gurney/Wells Evening route hours are 17:45 – 19:45  Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. This route will start April 2022. 

Due to an increase to our fleet of vehicles we are able to consider individuals who do not have a D1 or D1+E category on their driving licence (although this is advantageous). Successful applicants will all receive Minibus familiarisation training prior to commencing employment.
