International

Millfield Prep has between 60-70 international students from over 24 different countries with approximately a further 10 British or dual nationality students who also live abroad, amongst its 450 pupils. Around 130 pupils board in the five boarding houses.

Millfield has been an international school from its beginning. It was founded by Boss Meyer, arriving from India with six princes in 1935. Since its founding, the school’s philanthropic legacy has contributed to an Old Millfieldian global community which currently has over 22,000 members across the globe.

Boarding

At Millfield, boarders live together in houses, seven days a week, sharing all aspects of school life. This contributes to a rich, vibrant, understanding and respectful community. Millfield students only have one compulsory exeat per year, when all students have to leave the campus to return home for the weekend (Fri lunchtime to Sunday evening), to a guardian in the UK or arrange to stay with a friend. They can also arrange to visit family in the UK or friends on a weekend via their Housemaster/mistress and with parental permission, after their school commitments have finished on Saturday.

Millfield Prep offers flexi, weekly and full boarding, with the majority of boarders being full boarding. There are three compulsory exeats per year, two in the autumn term and one in the spring term, when all pupils have to leave the campus and either return home, to a guardian in the UK or arrange to stay with a friend.

Settling in

International students at Millfield attend an international student welcome event at the start of the year to meet their Houseparents and peers. They also have the opportunity to join the International Students' Association, enjoying dinners, talks and events throughout the year, an opportunity to make new friends and share experiences. National holidays are celebrated by the whole school, with special menus in the dining hall and events for everyone to learn from and enjoy.

International pupils at Millfield Prep attend an international pupil welcome at the start of the year to help settle them in and make friends with individuals in a similar situation. They connect through the EAL (English as an additional language) department and enjoy a special induction day when they start to make friends and familiarise themselves with life in a British boarding school.

Millfield admissions teams attend international events and host overseas receptions all over the world, giving current and prospective parents, and former students from that country, the chance to meet with Millfield Headmaster Gavin Horgan, Head of Millfield Prep Dan Thornburn and Admissions staff.
