British Eventing

Welcome to the sixth year of British Eventing at Millfield.

At Millfield Equestrian we are immensely proud of our consistent record for hosting a popular and efficient event, which has the honour of being invited to host the BE 80 Regional Final. The National Finals will be held at Burghley in September, so really something for grassroots competitors to aspire to.

We are especially proud to still have a healthy number of the weekend’s over 500 competitors as our own Millfield pupils, stabling and training with us at both Prep and Senior Schools.

The Equestrian staff and Grounds team always put an extraordinary amount of work into ensuring that the event runs smoothly and that the campus looks it's best for the weekend. This is all been done alongside their normal duties of caring for almost 100 horses and the School grounds, pitches and gardens.

British Eventing horse trials are staffed almost entirely by volunteers who give up their weekends to make ours so special. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their involvement and help in making the event so successful.

Admission to the site is free, although parking is at a premium so please care share where possible. There are lots of interesting trade stands to pique everyone’s interest including international cuisine, accessories, art, pottery and much more.

Tips for enjoying your day at the Horse Trials

1. What to wear

Being an outdoor sport, it's obviously best to dress according to the weather. Spectators at a horse trials wear everything from jeans to smart casual chinos. The important thing is being able to keep warm and dry. It is advisable to wear flat shoes/boots as the entire course is on grass.

2. Viewing

Programmes can be purchased from the secretary’s tent. Spectators can watch dressage over near the Orchard, then follow the rider to show jumping. Take a small break then head down to the cross country warm up. There are a number of areas around the cross country course where you watch horse and rider in harmony tackling the numerous obstacles.

3. Other attractions

Surrounding the show jumping arena are a number of trade stands selling a myriad of items including international cuisine, cake, art, pottery, plants and handbags. Feel free to have a browse or sit with a glass of prosecco and enjoy the atmosphere.
