This week, pupils from Millfield Prep and Pre-Prep took part in the final Tea & Music Concert of the spring term. The concert was premiered on YouTube for the whole Millfield community to enjoy. There were an incredible 45 performances from pupils, from Pre-Prep all the way up to Year 8.
Millfield Music School's term concluded with the prestigious Millfield Musician of the Year 2021 Contemporary Final. The concert featured 15 solo performances which were divided into two categories: senior vocal (Year 11 - U6) and advanced instrumental (Grade 7 and above). To adjudicate the competition, Millfield Music School welcomed Magdalen College School’s Director of Music Jon Cullen providing insightful feedback for each performance.
This year’s Millfield Musician of the Year 2021 brought a delightful remote edition of the competition, which saw over 100 entries from students from all year groups. Millfield Upper Sixth musician Woon Ngee Ng has received offers from four of the UK’s top music universities, including Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Royal Northern College of Music, and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has also received scholarship offers from the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music, both with Double Bass as her principal study.
Millfield Upper Sixth musician Tom Bradley has accepted a scholarship to study at the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world, Berklee College of Music in Boston. Notable alumni of Berklee include American indie/pop artist John Mayer and singer/songwriter Charlie Puth.
From what has been a momentous term, with 12 concerts, involving over 140 individual student performances, the Music School presented its immense and ever-popular Music At Millfield concert to end the term
Amongst our thriving calendar of events, our fifth event in nine days saw our second Evening Recital. After having an enjoyable concert last Monday, this concert featured an array of students playing some remarkable repertoire to reflect the immense talent these students inhabit, as well as the mere popularity of performance opportunity within the music department.
