10 things to know when applying to Millfield Prep

As September looms, it’s always helpful to understand what to consider when looking at any school for your children. Here at Millfield Prep, our strength has always been based around the belief that every child is an individual and our school aims to put the child at the heart of everything it does. If you are considering our school, take a look at some of the reasons why Millfield Prep is the right place for your child:

1. Location

Millfield Prep is based over 200 acres in rural Somerset, which is ideal for young children wanting to run and grow. It’s also perfect for London families, as it’s only an hour and a half from the city on the train! We have a dedicated Travel Office that can provide guidance and a booking service for our pupils at Exeats and end of term. Find out more here.

2. Academics

We are well-known for sport, but our parents also choose us because they know that their children will also get an outstanding academic programme to set them in good stead to be lifelong learners and to find their passions. 3. Sport

Are your children interested in sport? Millfield Prep has over 19 different sports to choose from, and we’re regularly voted as one of the best schools for sport in the country. We frequently reach regional and national finals in Rugby, Hockey, Cricket, Trampolining, Netball, Athletics, Football and many other sports. Last year, our Equestrian team were crowned champions at Hickstead Junior Schools Championships, and this year our girls’ swimming programme won the IAPS Championships for the 34th year in a row! We were also the first home to many talented professional athletes, including Olympic and Commonwealth Games swimmers James Guy and Cameron Kurle, as well as England Rugby legend Chris Robshaw.

4. Creativity

We believe that every child is an artist and that it is our role to build confidence and inspire each and every pupil to create and express themselves using their own unique and special talents. Our extensive Art, Drama and Music departments offer the chance to create and exhibit work, perform on stage or learn a new musical instrument – there really is something for everyone. 5. Learning Support

Millfield Prep has a strong learning support programme and is perfect for pupils with dyslexia. 6. Facilities

We are incredibly proud of our world-class facilities at Millfield Prep. From our state-of-the-art Sports Pavilion, fantastic new equestrian centre and 9- and 18-hole golf courses to our 3D laser cutter, pottery making studio, Virtual Reality headsets and Tree House, every child will find a passion to pursue. 7. Boarding vs Day

If you’re unsure if your child would prefer to board at Millfield Prep or join us as a day pupil, there are plenty of benefits to both. Our new minibus service provides return transport across seven routes in the local area, and if you decide to board, we have five boarding houses on campus, set in idyllic grounds with plenty of open space. 9. Weekend activities programme

Our boarders are never bored when lessons finish in the evenings and at the weekend, with on campus activities circus skills workshops, Segway driving, scuba diving and inflatable fun in the pool. At the weekends, pupils take trips to local attractions such as ice-skating, tobogganing, paintballing, laser tag and quad biking. Find out more about our after school programme here.

10. Moving on

Over 90% of Millfield Prep pupils go on to study at Millfield and there are lots of opportunities to use the facilities at Millfield.
