With 125 full boarders across four boarding houses, with two dedicated girls' houses, Millfield Prep provides a close-knit community where every child is known, valued and celebrated. Our boarding programme is designed to prepare pupils for the independence and opportunities of senior school while providing a fantastic experience during their prep years.

A Caring and Supportive Community

A key strength of our boarding provision is the people who work within the school. 95% of our boarding staff are teachers, meaning the support pupils receive extends far beyond pastoral care. It strengthens their learning, confidence and overall wellbeing.

Each house has its own team of resident Houseparents and support staff, offering structure, reassurance and a clear sense of family. Girls quickly settle into routines, make friends and gain confidence as they grow into life away from home.

With boarders coming from 31 different countries and 25 nationalities, girls also benefit from being part of an incredibly diverse and inclusive community, learning from one another and forming friendships that last well beyond their time at Millfield Prep.

Our girls’ houses are warm and welcoming, giving pupils the comfort and security they need at this stage of their school journey. Spaces are designed to feel homely, with cosy bedrooms, lively standard rooms, and plenty of room for creativity, collaboration and relaxation.

A Balanced, Enriching Lifestyle

Boarding life offers the perfect mix of structure and freedom. Pupils enjoy supervised study, social time, and access to outstanding facilities early in the morning and late into the evening. With everything on campus, logistics are simple, and children can dive into all aspects of school life.

Weekends are a real highlight, filled with trips, activities and opportunities for adventure through our vibrant weekend programme. Whether it’s sports, arts, outdoor activities or quiet time with friends, every weekend brings something new.

Growing Independence and Confidence

Around 30% of all Millfield Prep pupils are boarders, and they benefit from developing independence in a safe, caring environment. Girls learn to manage their time, look after their space, build resilience and support one another. All invaluable preparation for the move to Millfield Senior and beyond.
