Where are they now? Former Millfield Prep pupils Discover their Brilliance

To inspire pupils to Discover their Brilliance at Millfield Prep School, we celebrate the successes of former pupils who have been curious or challengers in pursuing the next stage of their life. Whether this is former pupils or those who are currently studying at Millfield, having role models to look up to is inspirational. 

Yuhka Machino - World's Top Female Mathematician

Yuhka joined Millfield Prep School in 2014 as a Year 6 pupil and excelled in her academics. She competed in many international Mathematics Olympiads throughout her time at Millfield and is now studying at the world's best university (as described by Forbes), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Yuhka was crowned the world’s top female mathematician during her time at Millfield, after gaining gold in the International Mathematics Olympiad for a second year in a row. She also won three gold medals at the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad and represented Japan in an international Informatics (Coding) competition, getting a silver medal in her first attempt in this discipline.

Millfield Mathematician Rebecca S has received an offer to study at the prestigious University of Cambridge.

Rebecca joined Millfield Pre-Prep at two years old and has been a member of the Millfield community ever since. She is currently a day student from Somerset, studying A levels in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics. She is part of Millfield’s Oxbridge Programme which helps prepare each student for every aspect of their application process and she recently received an offer to study at the prestigious, Churchill College, University of Cambridge.

Further former pupils have received offers to study at high-profile universities. Tottie joined Millfield Prep School in Year 3, and has signed to Stanford University on a sports scholarship, whilst Wyatt, who joined Millfield Prep in Year 4, has signed on an academic and sports scholarship to Quincy University, Illinois. In addition to academic success, we also have an array of former pupils that have achieved success in their respective sporting careers. A recent highlight was to see former Millfield Prep pupil James Guy feature on the Queens honours board, where he became an MBE.

James Guy - Gold at the Tokyo Olympics

James Guy

James attended both the Prep and Senior School from 2008-2014 and was a swimming scholar during his time at Millfield.

His honour of becoming an MBE followed James' success at the Tokyo Olympics, where he collected two gold medals and a silver medal for Team Great Britain in the swimming relay races.

In the mixed 4 x 100-meter medley relay, his team smashed the world record and broke a European record in the men’s 4 x 200-meter freestyle relay race. This brings James’ total career Olympic medals to five. Read more here.

Lando Norris - Drive to Thrive

Lando Norris

Finally, at just 22 years of age, it has been spectacular to see Lando Norris thriving in Formula 1. 

Lando joined Millfield Pre-Prep in 2006 and stayed throughout the entirety of the Prep School. He is now racing for McLaren and sitting in eight place in the Formula 1 standings.

In a sport that is watched by millions around the world, Lando has shown great maturity to adjust to the environment of Formula 1 and all the pressure that surrounds it. 

Lando and others mentioned are only a small sample of former Prep pupils that are discovering their brilliance and we are excited to see what the future holds for our current pupils.
