These qualifications are highly valued by employers across the world, who hold a British education in high regard. Students develop essential life skills such as leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, global awareness, digital literacy, breadth of thinking and creativity, in these formative years. 

British boarding offers something unique and distinctive: a full, well-rounded education combined with a rich and purposeful residential experience. 

 

Academic outcomes 

A levels are highly specialised and students acquire ample skills that employers are seeking throughout the two-year programme. A levels are also popular as students can specialise and choose subjects that they’re most interested in. 

UK universities such as Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College London, are ranked amongst the best in the world.

Millfield Futures department supports all students with guidance on post-Millfield pathways.

The department offers bespoke and tailored support for individuals, whether applying to university in the UK or overseas, applying for an internship or going straight into full-time employment. Specialist staff oversee different pathways and Futures guides offer invaluable advice on applying to competitive universities and courses, as well as covering UCAS essentials.

 

Full Boarding
 
Full Boarding is a concept that is becoming increasingly rare in Britain. Many schools close on the weekends, with students having to live with relatives or guardians at weekends. 

Millfield are proud to be a full boarding school, meaning all students live on campus full-time, seven days a week. There is only one fixed exeat, four weeks into the Autumn term, where all students leave campus for a well-earned rest, and any optional exeats can be arranged with Houseparents. 

Evenings and weekends are times when students can relax and really get to know House staff and peers. A programme of activities is put on at the weekends, including events onsite as well as trips to local sports venues, cinemas, beaches and local cities Bath, Bristol and Exeter. 

Houses are a wonderful mix of different cultures and interests, with 75+ different nationalities represented amongst the student body, a mix that is embraced by all. 

 
Pastoral Care

We know that sending your child to a British boarding school can feel daunting, especially for younger pupils and for those families where boarding is a new experience. Pastoral care is at the heart of everything, and children’s welfare and happiness come ahead of anything else.

At Millfield and Millfield Prep, we have a holistic approach to pastoral care, and everyone contributes to the safe, nurturing and happy environment that our students learn and live in. Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL), Houseparents, Group Tutors, Heads of Year, the Spiritual Director and the Medical Centre, as well as the Headmasters, play a crucial role in the wellbeing of our children, and meet daily to proactively flag any issues or concerns. 

Students can speak to anybody and are encouraged to do so. There are numerous tools in place to support students when homesickness occurs, or simply when they might be having a little wobble. These emotions are natural and students are looked after by experience staff and encouraged to settle in a variety of ways.  

 

Short term places

Short term places are available, including a one-year Prep EAL(English as an Additional Language) programme for Year 8 pupils and 11@Millfield for 15-year-olds into Year 11, both of which immerses students in the Millfield Way and transitions them seamlessly into Senior school and Sixth Form respectively. 

 

Practical Information

Logistics can cause a headache so at Millfield, we set to alleviate any stress and help where we can. Our International Admissions Manager will help arrange visas for students, and our transport office can arrange start and end of term travel arrangements to major airports and train stations. Term dates are known over a year in advance and are published on the website and in the parent portal to aid travel arrangements.
