Four former Millfield rugby players have been selected by their respective home nations for this year’s Six Nations tournament.
Adam Hastings, Josh Bayliss and Huw Jones have all been selected for Scotland, while Ieuan Davies will represent Wales U20. Despite his selection, an unfortunate knee injury will mean that Adam is unable to take the field for Scotland in this year’s event.
Six Nations is an annual, international competition between England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. The teams compete across six weeks of fierce competition, culminating with Super Saturday on 16 March 2024. Ireland were victorious in last year’s competition.
Millfield’s Director of Rugby is former Bath and England prop John Mallett. He is supported by a team of 18 coaches. John said “The 2024 six nations represents an exciting challenge for our Old Millfieldians. All the home nations will be rebuilding their squads after the World Cup. Josh will want to join Huw as a regular in the Scotland team, whilst Ieuan will have his eyes on England vs Wales U20 on Friday 9 February at Bath’s Recreation Ground."
There are a large number of Old Millfieldians who are playing or have played international rugby. This includes Chris Robshaw, Harlequins and former Captain for England; Jonathan Joseph, previously of Bath and England and Sir Gareth Edwards of Wales and The British and Irish Lions. Millfield became the first northern hemisphere school to be featured in the renowned documentary series ‘The Season’, which followed their boys First XV throughout their record-breaking 2022/2023 campaign, where they were crowned St. Joseph’s Festival and School’s Championship winners. The series generated more than 1 million views on social media.
