Millfield announce the appointment of a new Head of Sport Coaching, Tony McCallum.
Tony will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of the sports coaching programme across both Millfield and Millfield Prep School. The school offer specialist coaching across 24 different sports, delivered by sport specific coaches and teacher coaches. His role is to drive coach development, facilitate staff access to National Governing Body qualifications and sharing good practice between sports to increase skills and equip staff.
Tony brings with him a wealth of experience from a variety of roles that he’s held within the sports development sector, beginning at Richard Huish College, Taunton, as a sports academy manager. He spent 13 years at The FA, starting as a Senior Regional Coach Development Manager before progressing onto become the National Coach Development Manager. Before joining Millfield, Tony spent two years as a coach educator and developer.
This summer, Tony was the lead tutor of the inaugural Trinidad and Tobago Football Association A License Coaching course, the first of its kind in the Caribbean region. The course sought to educate coaches on the modern trends of the game, focusing on the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching, with an emphasis on leading the elite player and team at an advanced level.
Tony said, “I’m delighted to be joining Millfield School in a position where I can support Millfield Sport with the continued development of its coaching workforce. The opportunity allows me to work with experienced and forward-thinking staff who see their personal development as integral to the development of the performers they work with across all the sports provision.”
Millfield seeks to provide opportunities to engage everyone in sport through a diverse, challenging, multi-sport experience at all ages across all abilities. The school’s extensive and diverse facilities, along with specialist coaches and teacher-coaches enable a centralised programme of sport in training and competition, alongside education and co-curricular activities.
