Millfield dancer to represent England at Dance World Cup in Portugal

A Millfield dancer has been selected to represent England at the 2023 Dance World Cup.

Upper Sixth student Noah Miller will compete in the event in Braga, Portugal from 30 June – 8 July this summer.

Eighteen-year-old Noah will be performing three dances at this year’s event in show dance, contemporary and musical theatre categories. In the musical theatre category, Noah will be showcasing his singing and dancing talents as he plays the lead role in the number.  

Noah said, “I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be selected to represent England at the Dance World Cup once again. The opportunity to travel to Portugal and perform alongside such talented dancers from around the world is a dream come true. I'm grateful for the chance to showcase my skills on the international stage and make my country proud.”

In 2015, Noah’s passion for dance was ignited when he was given the opportunity to be a part of Billy Elliot in the West End, which he credits as a key moment in setting him on the path that he is on today.

It will be his third time representing his country at the World Cup, having taken part in the event in both 2020 and 2021. Noah said “The experience of competing in the 2020 and 2021 World Cups was truly unforgettable. Performing with my best mates, sharing our passion for dance, and connecting with talented artists from around the globe was incredibly rewarding. The event's energetic atmosphere and the valuable friendships formed during the competition left a lasting impression on me, further fuelling my dedication to dance as a form of personal growth rather than just for fun! I was delighted to get a silver and two bronze medals in the musical theatre and ballet categories.”

Noah, who boards at Millfield, started dancing when he was just five years old. He has always had a passion for performing arts, having been part of many different performance groups throughout his childhood. Noah joined Millfield for Sixth Form in 2021, and is studying Mathematics, Economics and PE at A level.

In addition to dancing, Noah is a member of the school’s 1st XV and 1st VII rugby teams, and was part of the team that won a record breaking eighth St. Joseph’s Festival title and clinched the inaugural Schools Championships at the World Schools Festival in Thailand last year. He will be featured in an upcoming documentary covering Millfield Rugby’s 2022-23 campaign named ‘The Season’, a renowned series commissioned by RugbyPass, who are the world’s largest rugby fan platform. He also competes in athletics as a 400-meter hurdler and made it to the English Schools Championships finals last year. Alongside his commitments in sport and the arts, Noah held the prestigious position of Captain of School at Millfield during the 2022 autumn term.

Noah said “Balancing these commitments can be challenging, but with the help of my teachers and a well-structured timetable, I am able to manage my time effectively and have the best chance to excel in all my endeavours.”

Next year, Noah will be attending St. Mary’s College in California, where he will have the incredible opportunity to play rugby on a rugby scholarship while studying a degree in dance.
