Millfield Fencers dominate on the national stage

Millfield fencers have demonstrated their dominance on the national stage, delivering outstanding performances across two of the UK’s most prestigious school competitions.

At the Public Schools National Fencing Championships, Millfield secured the ‘Overall Best School’ title for the 13th consecutive year, an extraordinary achievement that highlights the programme’s sustained excellence. In addition, the team was named ‘Most Improved School’, reflecting the hard work and progress made across all year groups this season.

A squad of 42 students from Years 7 to Upper Sixth travelled to London for the three-day event, where their strong performances earned them great results.

The competition saw success across numerous age groups, with multiple trophies awarded for overall boys’ and girls’ performance, as well as discipline-specific achievements. Individual highlights included: the Boys Mount-Hayes Master at Arms title for Year 9 Kruze F, Girls Mount-Hayes Champion at Arms title for Year 9 Polly W and Girls Junior Champion at Arms for Year 10 Eva D. Other significant results included Upper Sixth Chloe J claiming second in the Senior Girls Epee, Year 9 Polly W was second in the Mount Hayes Girls Epee, Year 9 Kruze F was third in the Mount Hayes Boys Epee, Year 9 Hadyn K and Year 8 Zitian S were third in the Mount Hayes Boys Sabre and Year 10 Lucia M was third in the Junior Girls Sabre.

Millfield fencers also achieved numerous top 10 finishes across Senior, Junior, and Mount-Hayes categories.

Millfield’s success continued at the British School Team Championships 2026, where the depth and strength of the programme was on full display.

Michael Cleary Head of Fencing at Millfield said, “This is one of our strongest performances in the past five years with five teams becoming National Team Champions, alongside two silver medals and three bronzes over the two days. Across both events, every student displayed commendable professionalism and teamwork through the whole event, gaining praise from other schools and the event organisers.”

A standout moment came for the U18 Boys Foil team who were crowned champions for the first time in eight years. Other national champion teams for Millfield included: U18 Girls Epee, U18 Girls Sabre, U15 Girls Epee and U18 Boys Foil.

Teams across all age groups also secured top five finishes, showing the talent of Millfield Fencing from Year 7 through to Upper Sixth.
