Two Millfield Hockey players have been selected to represent Wales U18 and U21 squads.
Lower Sixth students, Makenzy Beard and Joe Casey who play hockey for Millfield, will represent Wales U18 and U21 teams.
Seventeen-year-old Makenzy Beard joined Millfield last September to focus more on her passions in art and sport whilst being surrounded by like-minded people. She said, “Millfield hockey has helped me become a much more rounded and versatile player. Consistently playing against and amongst good players reminds me to always keep my standards high and to keep working hard.”
Makenzy, who has been selected to play for the U16 and U18 squads in previous years has been selected for the Wales Dreigiau U21 Squad. She said, “Being selected has been a very rewarding and motivating experience. It feels so good to have the time and effort I've invested in the sport being recognised.”
Sixteen-year-old Joe Casey joined Millfield in Lower Sixth to help him improve in his sport as well as his academics, he said, “I have been really enjoying Hockey at Millfield, as I am able to play at a high standard weekly which means I have more opportunities to improve and grow as a player.”
Joe has been selected to play for the Wales U18 squad. He said, “It feels really great to be selected for the Welsh squad and it is a real honour to be able to play for them for another cycle. I’m grateful for another opportunity to play internationally this year.”
In the future, Joe wants to continue with his academics and playing hockey. He also hopes to head abroad after Sixth Form.
Millfield Director of Hockey, Reggie Keates, said, “We are thrilled for both Joe and Makenzy on their Wales National Age Group selections. Their talent is matched by their excellent work ethic, and their impact on the Millfield programme has been significant. We wish them all the best for the cycle ahead.”
