Millfield ice hockey player Henry Callaghan has been invited to train alongside the Bristol Pitbulls feeder team.
Fifteen-year-old Henry, who is a day student, joined Millfield Prep in Year 6 for its sports offering and academics. Henry said, “My sister and I both researched the best sports schools and Millfield was the perfect fit for us.”
Henry trains outside of school and supports his training and fitness by participating in various sports in school. He said, “At Millfield, I fence, play cricket and also do clay pigeon shooting which helps me keep fit, but also is something different to enjoy when I am not on the ice. The school has been supportive of my sport, and I have recently worked with the school shop to design my own custom Millfield ice hockey jersey.”
Henry started playing ice hockey four years ago. He said, “I started showing interest in the sport whilst I lived in Canada. When we moved to England, I joined the Bristol Junior team and since have been appointed assistant captain of the U16s and I regularly train and play for the U18 squads.”
Henry is currently studying his GCSEs and keeps up with his academics whilst training away from school. He said, “The school has been able to support me in my training and games, they are always happy to accommodate me. I make sure that I can complete my prep work and can always ask for support from my teachers if I feel like I need more help.”
