Millfield Lower Sixth Netballer selected for Wales Senior Squad

Millfield Lower Sixth Netballer selected for Wales Senior Squad

Millfield Lower Sixth student Ella Porter has been selected for the Wales Netball Senior Squad for 2020.

Born and having previously studied in Wales, Ella joined Millfield in September 2019 and is currently studying for three A Levels in Biology, Geography and Psychology alongside a demanding training programme. She trains three times a week in Wales and travels back to Millfield to board. With her studies equally as important to her as her netball commitments, Ella hopes to continue the game at university where she aims to pursue a career in bio-medicine.

Ella says: “I am so excited to be selected as part of the senior squad for my native country. I was attracted to Millfield because of the sports facilities and opportunities, and after I was lucky enough to go to Barbados with Millfield Netball last October, this national selection is the icing on the cake.”

Ella plays in defence and is training alongside the rest of the squad and world class coaches with Jenna Adamson, Millfield’s Director of Netball who is also Assistant Coach of the Welsh National Netball team. The team are preparing for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2023 Netball World Cup.

Millfield Netball have had a number of recent successful call ups, particularly with Team Bath with whom the school has a formal partnership. Year 11 Sophie Hamilton has been selected for the Team Bath U19 NPL team whilst Lower Sixth Olivia Ralph and Year 10 Izzy Mackenzie have been chosen for the U17 Team Bath Academy. Millfield Netball were named as the latest Hub location for the Soldi-sponsored Team Bath Netball Futures Pathway last year, with Millfield’s Performance Coach Laura Rudland and OM Hannah Passmore both signing for another season at Superleague with Team Bath this year.

In September, 11 students were selected for the Team Bath Futures Hub. Maddie Graham (Year 10),  Sophie Hamilton (Year 11), Izzy Mackenzie (Year 10), Rosa Launder (Year 11), Jade Vardon-Cardy (Lower Sixth), Ella Porter (Lower Sixth), Catrin Roy (Lower Sixth), Isla Niddrie (Year 11), Abigail Taylor (Lower Sixth), Jemima Bugeja (Upper Sixth), Olivia Ralph (Lower Sixth) and Caitlin Mcloughlin (Year 11), all took part in the initiative held here at Millfield which aims to develop the next generation of netball talent in the South West.
