Millfield mathematician receives offer from University of Cambridge

A Millfield Mathematician has received an offer to study at the prestigious University of Cambridge.

Upper Sixth student Rebecca Stowell has been offered a place to read Mathematics at Churchill College from September. As well as Cambridge, Rebecca applied for courses at some of the country’s top universities: Warwick, Cardiff, York and Edinburgh, and has received offers from all establishments apart from Edinburgh so far.

Rebecca, a day student from Wedmore, Somerset, joined Millfield Pre-Prep at two years old and has been a member of the Millfield community ever since. She is studying A levels in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics and is a keen cricketer. She is part of Millfield’s Oxbridge Programme which helps prepare each student for every aspect of their application process from writing a unique personal statement through to preparing for interview.

Members of the programme receive one-to-one guidance to prepare students for tasks at interview as well as participating in an Oxbridge Preparation Day, an opportunity to meet with Oxbridge candidates from local schools and engage in a range of activities designed to refine interview skills.

Seventeen-year-old Rebecca said, “Millfield continues to push me in all aspects of life and allows me to try new sports alongside cricket. Millfield provided academic mentors, initially for Chemistry, to help me with the process and my application which helped greatly.”

Head of Careers, James Brittain, said, “It has been wonderful to see Rebecca progress throughout her time at Millfield and to realise her dreams. She is now well-placed to choose from some top university courses which will open up a range of graduate career opportunities for her.”

Millfield’s Upper Sixth cohort are starting to receive and accept offers from establishments all over the world including Stanford, North Carolina State, Royal Northern College of Music, Merrimack College and Youngstown State Universities.
